Abstract
This chapter introduces the aims and focus of our edited collection dedicated to presenting and discussing theoretical, practical, and research developments in English pronunciation in order to establish evidence-based directions and recommendations for best practices in English speech assessment, research, and training. It starts by explaining why the book focuses on English speech accents and related research. Then, it describes why it targets a mixed group of readers, including linguists, applied linguists, researchers, teachers, teacher educators, and students. The chapter concludes with an exploration of the structure of the book and the contents of each chapter.
