Submitting Data to a Public Repository, the Final Step of a Successful HTS Experiment

Field Guidelines for Genetic Experimental Designs in High-Throughput Sequencing

Abstract

The Sequence Read Archive (SRA) at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) is a public repository of high-throughput sequencing (HTS) data. The database hosts raw read data and alignment information from a number of HTS platforms as well as metadata describing library preparation, sequencing instruments, and bioinformatics pipelines. Submissions are also linked to relevant sample and project metadata as well as other related resources both within NCBI and externally. Submitted data are assigned permanent accessions, enabling compliance with scientific reporting standards. Individual users can submit required SRA metadata and file information by spreadsheet, whereas larger submitting institutions may wish to submit programmatically via XML.
