Hair Atlas of Canadian Mammals

Abstract

This chapter presents an identification key to dorsal guard hairs of all Canadian mammals, with taxonomical precision set at the genus level. This key was developed to assist both scientists and laypersons in determining the origin of hairs found under various circumstances. However, it was assumed that prospective users would have access to an optical microscope and the necessary materials to prepare microscope slides, as detailed in Chap. 3, to effectively study the medulla and cuticle of dorsal guard hairs.
