Abstract
We are a quite unusual species, endowed with a powerful brain and a communicative capacity that goes far beyond that of any other species. This has led us to stand in a qualitatively different condition from that of most other animals. Paradoxically, although we may be biologically close to other species, the impact we can make on the environment is so powerful that it is no exaggeration to use Georg Hegel’s notion that the quantitative difference has acquired a qualitative dimension.
