Orthodox Christians from across Pennsylvania joined thousands of pro-life advocates at the state Capitol in Harrisburg on September 22 for the 5th annual Pennsylvania March for Life rally, reports Orthodox Christians for Life.

The Orthodox contingent included clergy and faithful from throughout the state who carried icons and banners as they processed through the Capitol Complex.

Fr. Alexander Cadman of St. Michael’s Church in Irvona led participants in the Office of Prayer and Supplication for the Victims of Abortion during the gathering.

The event, hosted by the Pennsylvania Family Institute, began with praise and worship at 10 a.m., followed by speakers at 11 a.m. and a march around the Capitol Complex at noon. Speakers included Republican lawmakers House GOP Leader Jesse Topper of Bedford County, Sen. Judy Ward of Blair County, and Rep. Kathy Rapp of Warren County.

Participants called on state lawmakers to restrict or ban abortion access in Pennsylvania, where abortion is currently legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. The law provides exceptions beyond that limit when two physicians certify the procedure is necessary to prevent death or substantial harm to the mother.

The Orthodox Christian participation represented one of several religious groups that took part in the march.
