Taken at face value, Dragon's Dogma is a deceptively simple action RPG, with exceptionally fun combat. The western fantasy design is very well done and channels a bit of Dark Souls, but with it's own unique flair. The music is great. The pawn system is a blast, and there is tons of looting and upgrading to be done. Progression is steady and extremely satisfying.
The biggest shortcoming in Dragon's Dogma seems to be the storyline. It begins as a fairly dull story of revenge against a dragon that stole your heart... However, as you log more hours exploring the world of Gransys, something begins to feel wrong. A strange sense of paranoia clouds your mind, shadows twist and distort under your lamp light, and something sinister lurks just out of view... The climax comes, the ultimate battle, and then....
And then suddenly, all illusions of mediocrity are shattered.

Upon reaching the latter half of this game, you will come to realize, Dragon's Dogma contains one of the best kept secrets in the gaming world. That being it's absolutely INSANE subversive, genre shattering ending.
