Clarification on Feature Scope: Deepnote Open Source vs. Deepnote Cloud #148

Hello Deepnote Team and Community,

First off, congratulations on the decision to open source Deepnote!

Based on the information on the GitHub page and in recent announcements, I understand that Deepnote Open Source (OSS) primarily focuses on enabling local workflows, integration with local IDEs (VS Code, JupyterLab, etc.), and the .deepnote format.

However, some of the product's prominent features; such as real-time collaboration, the Deepnote AI Agent, and deployable data app are frequently mentioned in the context of scaling workflows to Deepnote Cloud.

I have a few questions that would be greatly appreciated to clarify the scope for potential contributors and self-hosters:

  1. Feature Parity: Will all features currently available in Deepnote Cloud eventually be included in the Deepnote Open Source version? Or is the Cloud version positioned as a commercial layer that provides additional, integrated services like collaboration and advanced AI?
  2. Roadmap/Matrix: If some features are exclusive to the Cloud, is there a publicly available Feature Matrix or Roadmap document outlining the full scope of the open source release (which components are included) and future plans (especially regarding the inclusion of AI Agent and real-time collaboration capabilities in the OSS)?

A clear explanation of the boundaries between the OSS and Cloud offerings would be invaluable for the community looking to adopt and contribute to the project.

Thank you for your clarification.

Best regards.
