Ex-pat pens song for Clough

A Derby County-supporting guitarist is marking the arrival of Nigel Clough as the club's new manager with a musical tribute.

You'll no doubt know 'Steve Bloomer's Watching' but now there's a new song for Derby County fans to sing in the stands at Pride Park.

Kev Moore, a professional guitarist who grew up watching Brian Clough's team play at the Baseball Ground, has penned a track to celebrate the legendary manager's son being named as the club's new boss.

The track, called 'Derby Pride' centres on the passing of the baton from Clough Senior to Clough Junior and Kev wrote, performed and produced the track on his own.

He said: "It explores the 'father to son' theme which is particularly poignant, not just with Brian and Nigel Clough but with my own father and I - going to watch Derby was the one thing we did together.

"I rode on the tide of emotion most Derby fans felt when Nigel Clough was named as the new manager.

"Writing a song about it seemed like the right thing to do. I wrote it in about 20 minutes. The lyrics just came out and it took me about five days to put the whole thing together in the studio.

"I just wanted to get it out to capture the really good mood around the city."

Sample lines include: "We’ve been waiting since 1974, for justice to be done, for this sleeping giant to roar.

"And that little boy beside him, would soon become a man, step into his father’s shoes, and lead the mighty rams!"

Kev, who lives in Spain when he's not touring with seventies rockers Christie, BC Sweet and Saxon, said he's already received positive feedback about the track.

He explained: "Judging by the response I’ve received following its airing on Shane’s breakfast show, its struck a chord with many people in the area.

"I've approached the club with it and if it gets played at Pride Park, I'll be well happy."
