At The Dentist
A dark little comic from my dark little past ☺️
Hi! Writing this one from the dentist chair while I wait for the doc to fit me for a brand new retainer! This is 40. (Okay, this is 42.) There was a full waiting room at 8am before the receptionist arrived and she started checking people in but waved me off with a smile and a “Oh, I know you, Breena, I got you.” She knows me, because I have had a FAIR SHARE of dental work. Love that for me!
Here’s a comic I made about 16 years ago, back when I’d just had my very first crown (little did I know of all the additional crowns and root canals and extractions and molar implants in my future!) It’s a bleak little story (it’s fiction!), but was therapeutic to write :D
So dark! So twisted! We’re all just trying to make sense of our mortality, right? And keeping up on our dental health? Are you flossing? Wearing your night guard? Unclench that jaw and go eat an apple. (If you’re curious, I think this was a true story right up to the part where they stepped outside… I remember joking with another woman at the door whether they would stop pushing ice off to let us pass, and fortunately, for us, they did, and I was never killed. In case that wasn’t clear.)
No comic news this month, just quietly plugging away on projects. But if you aren’t following my pals Jonathan Hill and Aron Nels Steinke yet, they’ve been super busy promoting their fantastic new books, Lizard Boy 2 and Speechless, so go out and buy those and catch one of their events if you can!
Oh and of course you can still order Claudia Claws from meeeee! You can also order it (U.S. and international!) through Buy Olympia, or grab it locally at Floating World Comics.
Okay that’s it for now. Happy May!
