Arduino SDK - Error trying to download library

Hi all, I have new PC running Windows 10 x64 and for some reason I can't download ESPAsyncTCP library. What do I miss?

The error I get is:

I don't think the problem is on your system. I just tried to install "AsyncHTTPRequest_Generic" and got the same "no protocol" error.

It seems to have installed correctly after I manually installed "ESP_DoubleResetDetector" and "LittleFS_esp32".

I have installed "ESP_DoubleResetDetector" and "LittleFS_esp32" but didn't work for me in regards of "ESPAsyncTCP". By "installed" I mean that I have downloaded the files from github remove -master from the name and copy/paste it into libraries.

Can you please give me some more specific info of what steps did you take?

Using Tools -> Manage Libraries..., I started by putting 'ESPAsyncTCP' in the 'filter' field (top right of the dialog). The only match was "AsyncHTTPRequest_Generic" by Khol Hoang. I tried clicking on the "Install" button and got the same error as you after a dialog listing about six dependencies. After that failed I started installing the dependencies individually (putting the library name in the filter field and clicking on Install). After a couple of those it showed that AsyncHTTPRequest_Generic was installed. I'm not sure all the dependencies are installed but the compiler will point out any missing libraries if they are needed.

Hi guys,

I had the same problem, and I saw that many people are also having this problem.

I couldn't install the ESPAsyncTCP library through the Arduino IDE, but I managed to get it to work manually. This library needs 06 other libraries to work, which are:

LittleFS_esp32
ESP_DoubleResetDetector
ESPAsync_WiFiManager
STM32duino LwIP
STM32duino STM32Ethernet
WebServer_WT32_ETH01

These were the steps I used:

1 - Install the LittleFS_esp32, ESP_DoubleResetDetector, STM32duino LwIP, STM32duino STM32Ethernet and WebServer_WT32_ETH01 libraries one by one, in this sequence. The ESPAsync_WiFiManager library is installed along with the first two;

2 - Download the library ESPAsyncTCP-master.zip: GitHub - me-no-dev/ESPAsyncTCP: Async TCP Library for ESP8266;

3 - Manually install the ESPAsyncTCP-master.zip library. Sketch -> Include Library -> Add Library .ZIP

After these procedures, I was able to compile the programs for ESP8266, using the ESPAsyncTCP library.

Hope this helps, because it was the only way I was able to get the ESPAsyncTCP library working in my Arduino IDE.

I have submitted a fix for the invalid metadata in the "AsyncHTTPRequest_Generic" library that triggers this error in the Arduino IDE:

The `depends` field of [the library.properties metadata file](https://arduino.gi…thub.io/arduino-cli/latest/library-specification/#libraryproperties-file-format) specifies the dependencies that should be installed along with the library by the [Arduino Library Manager](https://docs.arduino.cc/software/ide-v1/tutorials/installing-libraries#using-the-library-manager). This field must contain only the names of libraries that are available for installation via Library Manager. A message are display on IDE, except Flash, nobody can read it :-). **To Reproduce** Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1. Go to 'On main screen" 2. Click on 'Library Manager' Icon 3. Consider raising LP048 to error instead of warning

[LP048](https://arduino.github.io/arduino-lint/dev/rules/library/#depends-not-in…-index-lp048) checks whether all libraries mentioned in the `depends` field of library.properties exist in the Library Manager, however it is a warning and not an error. The issue is that `arduino-cli lib install` will refuse to install any library whose dependencies are not in the Library Manager: ``` % arduino-cli lib install "OpenMV Arduino RPC" Error installing OpenMV Arduino RPC: No valid dependencies solution found: dependency 'SoftwareSerial' is not available ``` I saw quite a few libraries mentioning built-in classes such as SoftwareSerial or EEPROM, which are not known to the Library Manager. When trying to install such libraries from the IDE 2.0, it will just refuse to install them without providing any error. The easiest way to fix this asymmetry would probably be to raise this check to error level. Other fixes could be to implement ways to bypass this check at library installation time in CLI and IDE. What do you think @per1234?
