AuthZ vs AuthN
- AuthN (Authentication) = it is the process of verifying the identity of a user or system. It confirms that the user or system is who they claim to be. This process typically involves presenting credentials, such as a username and password, and validating them against a database or authentication service. Authentication ensures that only authorized users gain access to resources or functionalities within an application.
- AuthZ (Authorization) = it is the process of determining what actions or resources a user is allowed to access within an application or system. Once a user's identity has been authenticated, authorization specifies the permissions and privileges associated with that identity. Authorization mechanisms enforce access control policies, ensuring that users can only perform actions or access resources that they are authorized to. Most common access is CRUD which stands for Create, read, Update & Delete.
