Description
Prerequisites
- Write a descriptive title.
- Make sure you are able to repro it on the latest released version
- Search the existing issues.
- Refer to the FAQ.
- Refer to Differences between Windows PowerShell 5.1 and PowerShell.
Steps to reproduce
I have installed PowerShell 7.5.3 on a Windows 11 Pro system. This version was upgraded from version 7.5.2 automatically, since I have opted for the option to have PowerShell automatically update via the Windows Update feature. Version 7.5.2 is the version initially installed on the system.
However, now the Windows Update feature tries to install both versions 7.4.6 and 7.4.2 via the Windows Update feature (so older versions!), which continuously fail. How can I prevent these older versions from being used in the Windows Update?
Expected behavior
The older versions are not being installed via the Windows Update.
Actual behavior
Windows Update tries to install older versions that currently already installed.
Error details
For example, the "update" to PowerShell 7.4.6 fails with the message
Install error - 0x80070643
