[New Study Screen] Auto Advance plays audio twice and starts advancing cards immediately #20242

Checked for duplicates?

  • This issue is not a duplicate

Does it also happen in the desktop version?

  • This bug does not occur in the latest version of Anki Desktop

What are the steps to reproduce this bug?

  1. Turn on the new study screen
  2. Add "Toggle auto advance" to the toolbar
  3. Adjust deck options to have "Seconds to show question for" as 5 seconds
  4. Start reviewing the deck
  5. Tap "Toggle auto advance" to enable auto advance
  6. Review a few cards, usually reviewing faster than the auto advance window

Expected behaviour

It started working normally, but after a few cards the audio on the back of my cards began getting interrupted and playing a second time (it seemed like it was playing a second time as if the auto advance time had elapsed and just flipped the card, even though I was already on the answer side?).

Randomly along with that, my cards would then start immediately auto advancing without waiting the configured 5 seconds. This immediate advancing would continue for multiple subsequent cards, without me interacting with the screen other than pressing an answer button.

The expected behavior is like the old study screen and desktop. Auto advance only triggers if the time after reviewing the last card has exceeded the limit. Audio only automatically plays once, when revealing the back of the card (either manually or through auto advance).

(Optional) Anything else you want to share?

I confirmed by switching back to the old study screen with the same deck that the behavior was only happening on the new study screen.

I had music playing from another app in the background, if that is relevant.

Research

  • I have checked the manual and the FAQ and could not find a solution to my issue
  • (Optional) I have confirmed the issue is not resolved in the latest alpha release (instructions)
