Hey @BinaryMuse @kuychaco @simurai @smashwilson

I was thinking about how now the github package will be part of core Atom.

I'm assume most people use git with Atom, I bet there's a few users that don't.

This looks a bit weird for starting out experience if I'm a user that never used git / github before.

When ever I edit a file or do anything, I'll have these ⬆️ ⬇️ and a 0 file on the bottom right.

For non git repos, I wonder if we can show something like this:

And when you click on it, it opens the github package, it opens up to show the github package.

Versions

Atom Version (atom --version):
Atom : 1.18.0-dev-b664e1ad8
Electron: 1.3.14
Chrome : 52.0.2743.82
Node : 6.5.0

GitHub Package Version (git --git-dir ~/.atom/packages/github/.git rev-parse head):

This is just a suggestion and wanted to get your 💭 on it.
