Question: Best practice for speeding up initial loading? #74

Feature Requested

Thanks as always, Chris, for the fantastic plugin.

Perhaps Chris (and others) could chime in on my question - sorry if this is not the right place to ask... I'm also interested in more opinions.

What can I do to speed up the (buffer) loading?

Context:

  1. I recently, through configuring better bib-tex, omitted some fields to trim down the .bib file with hope to speed up the loading time for citation picker. I got it down from ~16mb to ~6mb, but not seeing much improvement on the (buffer) loading (some 3s, every time when the plugin loads anew).

  2. To make it worse, the .bib autoupdates 2s after a change is introduced (in Zotero). So the 3s here and 3s there multiply throughout the day.

  3. My .bib file currently contains ~14k entries, it's maybe 14k too many. I know.

  4. I guess sane people would maintain a different .bib file for each project (e.g. paper) they work. I guess I don't fall in this camp.

Many thanks!

To make it into an actual feature request: perhaps there might be an option to trigger the reload earlier?
