PEP 301 (classifiers) #9716

@story645

Description

@story645

Jumping off of #5340, would there be interest in conda adopting a form of PyPa's classifiers (PEP 301)?

Matplotlib is trying to maintain a list of downstream libraries and the documentation is becoming unwieldy to the point of undiscoverable. It would be long term more maintainable if the hand curated list could be replaced with lists generated via packaging/packagers(matplotlib/matplotlib/issues/16592) where downstream maintainers can essentially register themselves and then users could search anaconda package lists with a Matplotlib classifier to find Matplotlib related libraries:

conda search --classifier matplotlib
