Support for Motion Photos and Live Photos #1927

Describe the feature

I would like to propose the support of Motion Photos, Live Photos and similar formats. These formats, supported by smartphones like Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and Apple iPhones, combine a still image with a short video clip that captures moments before and after the shot. A key feature is that these video streams are directly embedded into the .jpg files.

I'm aware that ImageGlass is probably reluctant to support full video playback in order to focus on image viewing and keep the program as lightweight as possible. However, I think that since these video streams are so tightly integrated into the image file itself, i'ts a good idea to support these formats anyway.

How to use the feature

  • If ImageGlass detects an embedded video clip a motion button could be displayed, similar to how the Windows Photos app handles motion images currently (see demo below).
  • Alternatively, at least a hint should be displayed when images have embedded video streams.
