"EARTHENGINE_TOKEN" or "EE_PROJECT_ID" ? #2081

Hello folks, I know this is a recurrent question, but I have been using geemap in Colab for a long time, with the secret configured as EARTHENGINE_TOKEN, and everything was working perfectly. However, today when I tried to run a few new examples, I kept getting the message: "Exception: Please set a secret named 'EE_PROJECT_ID' in Colab or provide a project ID." I double-checked all configurations, ensured the cloud project was set up correctly, and verified every step, but nothing seemed to work. Then, I tried copying the content of 'EARTHENGINE_TOKEN' to a new secret named 'EE_PROJECT_ID', and it worked! Is this a new issue, or is there something I might have done wrong? I'm asking that because all my students use the colab notebooks I produced and - of course - I'm using the same steps than https://book.geemap.org/chapters/01_introduction.html#earth-engine-authentication. Perfect...in fact, there is another issue arising from that. When trying to combine geemap and ee, an error pops up: But I think this is something with the translation between geemap and ee. I imagine I should wait for next release. |

Running this (below). When I comment out "image" (so...the ee part), Map just works. map = geemap.Map(center=[21.79, 70.87], zoom=3) |

hello, Dr. Wu I have also used geemap on colab for a long time, but in the last few days I have also encountered the question "Please set a secret named 'EE_PROJECT_ID' in Colab or provide a project ID." At your suggestion I did the geemap update using the %pip install -U geemap command and now it works fine with geemap. Thanks again for your answer! |

This is likely an Earth Engine Python client library issue (not geemap). EE eng is assigned to look into it. See issue #2234 for updates. |
