It would be nice to have an option from the system tray's menu, to redo the last screenshot.

Thanks !

Hello,
what do you mean with "redo" last screenshot? Like bring previous screenshot back when you have overwritten it with a new one?

I mean, get a new screenshot with the exact same settings that were used in the previous capture.

This is a similar concept as the Last Rectangular Area option from the New button, but accessible from the systray and also able to redo screen, window, rectangular area capture, depending on which one was used last.

My use case is when preparing screenshots for documentation, I frequently find myself redoing the same screenshot several times, changing data and refreshing the page, until I get the contents right.

I'm not sure if I get the difference to the "New" option from SystemTray. The "New" option should be already doing the last "screenshot type" again that you have used. What type of screenshot does it take on your machine?

Sorry if I'm not clear. It's not just the type that should be repeated, but also the specific settings of the last screenshot (e.g. which window, or rectangular area coordinates and size).

If you know Greenshot (on Windows), they have this feature as Capture last region. If that helps, I can post a screenshot from my work PC tomorrow.

Currently, the systray's New option, forces you to select the window or rectangular area again (which can be a pain for the latter, in my usage scenario).

Isn't it possible to get Last Rectangular Area via the New option? Like trigger rect screenshot, then select from the main window Last Rectangular Area, after that using the New option from SystemTray should always redo the last area. Haven't tested it myself but I believe the code should support that. Truth, capturing last Window or Screen is not supported, might require some major refactoring due to architecture reasons. Also, I would, probably merge everything into one Type, probably renaming the Last Rectangular Area into Redo Last Capture and that, would depending on the last capture do something (capture same window, Screen or Rect Area ...).

You're right, I just tested it. A bit convoluted to have to do it in 3 steps, but it works. Rectangular is the most painful, so it may not be worth the effort to implement the feature for screen or window which are easier to redo manually.

Still it would be nicer and more user friendly to be able to pick the screenshot type (like from the main window's New button), straight from the systray menu.

That is true, should be simple enough to implement to see all available screenshot options instead of the new button in the System Tray.

Great ! I appreciate you taking my suggestion into consideration, and look forward to seeing it implemented in a future release.

Also, many thanks to you and the project's contributors for making ksnip, it is a great tool that I recently discovered while looking for an alternative to Shutter, which no longer works under recent releases of Ubuntu.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it :)

Implemented, coming with 1.8.0. You can test this already with the continuous build.
