Capabilities:

  • StaticCondensation class with usable APIs (Static condensation #3883)
  • preconditioner wrapper that can be toggled from command line with -pc_type so that user can decide from the command line whether they want global linear solve to be with all dofs or just trace dofs

I have no plans to get to the last sub-bullet here. This is sufficiently addressed to me
