As with regular fonts, there exist several different formats encoding a colour glyph in a font. Some of these are directly supported by FreeType, but for some it only exposes the underlying data and cannot render them.

This is a meta issue for the purposes of documenting the lack of support of each individual type and a tracking issue for implementations.
