Description

1. I have PHP project that takes over /favicon.ico using rewrite and returns with a HTTP code 200
2. When I load https://example.dom/favicon.ico, I do get my icon, but it comes with a HTTP code 404
3. Other PHP pages are fine and return 200
4. I checked and it was caused by Nginx having this configuration

   location = /favicon.ico {
       log_not_found off;
       access_log off;
   }
   

5. Why does Nginx allow PHP content to get through, but not the HTTP status code
6. When I remove the above Nginx config, the icon returns HTTP code 200

Expectation: both HTTP code and content from PHP are returned
Actual: Only content from PHP are returned, HTTP code is overwritten by Nginx

• The bug is reproducible with the latest version of nginx
• The nginx configuration is minimized to the smallest possible
  to reproduce the issue and doesn't contain third-party modules
