thanks for trying OCT with your SoundTouch 300!

The error you're seeing (backup failed, SSH asking for a password) tells us that SSH isn't properly enabled on your device yet. When
emote_services works correctly, SSH should be accessible as
root without a password.

A few things to check:

1. USB stick format: Must be FAT32, volume label SOUNDTOUCH (all caps, max 11 characters due to FAT32 limits). The file must be named exactly remote_services — no file extension, no .txt.

2. The USB adapter: The ST300's Micro-USB port is recessed — some adapters don't plug in fully. Other users in #186 had the same problem and had to physically file down their adapter to get a proper connection.

3. Boot sequence: Power off the ST300 completely (unplug), insert the USB stick, then plug the power back in. The device needs to detect the stick during boot, not while already running.

4. Verify SSH works: After booting with the USB stick, try connecting with PuTTY or from a terminal:

ssh root@<speaker-ip>

It should connect without asking for a password. If it asks for one, the USB provisioning didn't take effect.

If SSH still requires a password after retrying, please share:

• What USB stick you're using (brand/size)
• How you formatted it (which tool)
• Whether the speaker shows any reaction when booting with the stick inserted

We're also working on USB-less provisioning via telnet — which could be an alternative for the ST300 in the future. Stay tuned.
