Add SSTV Decode & Logging via WebUSB (CAT/DAX Support for Major Radios)
Description
It would be awesome if Nextlog could automatically listen for, decode, and save SSTV images. The idea is to use WebUSB to connect directly to supported radios and capture audio/data streams for SSTV decoding. Once decoded, images should be stored alongside the QSO log or in a dedicated SSTV gallery.
Acceptance Criteria
- Support major radios such as:
- Icom IC-7300 (USB CAT + audio interface)
- Flex 6400 (DAX audio + CAT control)
- WebUSB integration for both CAT control and digital audio (DAX or equivalent).
- Real-time SSTV monitoring and decoding from radio audio.
- Automatic saving of received SSTV images with timestamp, frequency, and QSO metadata.
- Option to link decoded images to corresponding QSOs in the log.
- Configurable folder/gallery view for browsing past SSTV images.
Nice to Have (Future Enhancements)
- Support for additional rigs via rigctld or other CAT/DAX backends.
- Integration with existing SSTV libraries like
jsSSTVor interfacing with external decoders. - Ability to trigger an alert/notification when a new image is decoded.
- Option to also send SSTV images through the same interface.
Motivation / Use Case
SSTV is a popular digital mode in ham radio. Having built-in SSTV decode support in Nextlog would provide an integrated experience for operators, reduce the need for third-party tools, and make it easier to associate SSTV activity with logged contacts.
