Well, we haven't really discussed that in the end. During the discussion on point vs. area/block support and intensive/extensive/categorical variables and their treatment in spatial operations, we agreed that this is one of the topics that would deserve a deeper dive and ideally a formulation of some suggestions so that may lead to a focused paper on this topic. I'd be happy to take a lead on that, ideally in close coop with @edzer who clearly put way more thought into that than I did. On the more generic follow-up publication, I am not certain about the shape and narrative of such a text but maybe others have some ideas? |

Sorry for chiming in from the sideline, but the discussion about temporal features sparked my interest. I will try to dive into the OGCs MovingFeatures, is it an official standard yet? There is also CZML developed by Analytical Graphics Inc./Cesium under an open licence that I leverage in the R package cesium. A lot of the properties defined there actually deal with the (temporal) visualisation within CesiumJS, so maybe Moving Features is actually more relevant in the context of standards and cross-language interoperability? I would be very interested in opinions about that aspect from folks more experienced with space-time data. |

@goergen95 yes, the main standard is official: https://www.ogc.org/standard/movingfeatures/ but some of the encoding formats may not yet be or -- at least -- they are still being worked on ... I don't claim to understand OGC's internal workings ;-) |
