💡 Using satellite data and cloud processing to retrieve actionable insights! In our use cases, we show how Earth observation data enables impactful applications. One great example is ESA WorldCereal, which is transforming global agricultural monitoring by combining 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥 satellite data with 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠. 🌾 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 provides an open system delivering 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐬 at an unprecedented 10 m resolution, supporting researchers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders worldwide. ⚠ Continuous and free access to 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐬 data and powerful processing tools are essential for safeguarding communities, infrastructure and ecosystems. Being able to 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, including volcanic activity, supports better 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, more timely 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 and a clearer understanding of potential impacts. 🌋 A clear example is the 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐞𝐟 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨 in the South Pacific. This 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥-𝟐 Highlight-Optimised Natural Colour 👇 shows its latest eruptive phase, with a new lava flow and a large ash plume clearly visible thanks to highlight-optimisation technique which brings out subtle contrast between dark ocean water and bright ash and cloud, revealing fine details in the eruptive plume.  🛰️ The  𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 provides this continuous, open access to Sentinel and complementary missions, a crucial resource for stakeholders working on hazard forecasting, environmental monitoring and preparedness. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲? 🛰️ A pertinent question as we move into the holiday season. Recently, WorldCereal was featured in the technical note "𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗻" by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This study used the WorldCereal methodology for crop type mapping in Africa. 🌍 Cropland encroachment is a major driver of conflict between farmers and herders in Sudan. This technical note used satellite imagery and on-the-ground surveys to monitor a livestock route in Sennar State. The results are promising. After the route was re-demarcated, the total area of cropland within it decreased by over 7,500 hectares. Less cropland means less obstruction of the route and a likely reduction in conflicts between farmers and herders. This study highlights the potential of remote sensing as a tool for monitoring and managing stock routes to mitigate conflict. The agriculture industry needs 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. That’s why we enable researchers to use our combined facilities, resources, and services to optimise plant phenotyping in Flanders/Belgium and across Europe.
