Why do you want to become staff?
I have adored my time on the QA team, but I know I could be doing more for the community.
Considering my time zone, I know I can be quite valuable to the currently quite understaffed survival team, especially with the rampant offenders as of late.
Time and time again, players have asked if I can mute someone spamming in chat or ban someone clearly violating the rules when seeing my QA prefix, and yet all I can do is report and wait. In some cases, waiting up to an hour for a response, and it's frustrating when players look to you for help, and you cannot provide what they need. I want to be the person they need and keep Manacube a safe space.
Minecraft is my escape, it's something I'm passionate about, as it is for many players; they should not have to deal with people exploiting and taking advantage of their fun.
How long have you played on ManaCube?
10 months and 4 days since the day I joined with 2380 hours of active play time.
How many hours a week can you dedicate to Manacube? 2-16 hours a day from Monday to Saturday as of the moment, I do have obligations from 9am to 3pm AEST on Sundays but I can still be online during this time.
What skills do you feel you have that will help the server?
Leadership experience.
13 Combined years in a leadership position through extracurricular activities both in and outside of schooling have taught me every single in and out of managing a group setting. How important morale is, teamwork among individuals, letting people play to their strong suits, transparency and honesty where applicable and within my capabilities.
Vocational major.
While this may seem odd at first, clear delivery, sentence structure and delicate word choice are highly important, especially when a second party is interpreting your words.
Keeping your word count minimal while still getting your whole message across will prevent confusion and misinterpretation.
Critical thinking.
Being objective about topics and not jumping to rash conclusions based on emotional influence, keeping both parties' opinions in mind and not shunning one side for not aligning with your initial personal beliefs.
Overall rule knowledge.
I've pestered the mods about survival rules for a long time. If a player has a question, I'm usually the first to offer to seek the answer on their behalf, as I usually want to know the answer myself for the next time.
What experiences have you had which could help you as staff? I've been on countless small Discord staff teams over the years, and the process of using bot commands, logs and structured processes has been drilled into me religiously. I've seen the rise and fall of Discord moderation giants as far back as 2018, how certain filters work, countless different scams, nuking and doxxing, and observing the shortcomings and what improper behaviour can do to staff.
Cadets, Scouts, leadership schooling, student council, and leadership roles in all that is listed.
Keeping people in line with the values and rules is a large part of these kinds of leadership roles, mainly by being the role model for those values. However, the other part was to be observant, be there for people who are struggling, help them achieve their goals, provide support, keep the peace and ultimately dependable.
My recent rise to QA has obviously provided valuable insight into my character and how I would work in a staff setting, how we approach problems, and the handling of sensitive information. I do believe I've risen to the occasion, but I think it's best suited if moderation and management make an opinion on this.
And not to mention the countless player reports and question answering I've done, I have a firm understanding of the moderation process, how much evidence is required, the usual punishment path, and it's to the point I'm starting to track moderator sleep patterns by proxy.
Not only all this, but 2 years with the navy in ADF, sigining NDA's, thorough TOS agreements, and the threat of legal action has kept me extremely diligent about keeping information private and opinions reserved.
What three attributes distinguish yourself from other players that qualify you to be a helper?
I believe the people I help and support have the most accurate reflection of my ability at the end of the day, as they are my responsibility, and their experience is ultimately the reflection of the staff's capability.
Networking, communication and knowledge:
Not only is it important to familiarize yourself with the rules and mechanics as a newer player, but I've also made it paramount to reach out to as many players as possible across as many realms as I can and get involved with the community, slowly filling myself in on Manacube's complex social history, which has proved beneficial with veteran players voicing complaints and issues, where otherwise they would dismiss newer members as an avenue to come forward too, I apply this very same determination towards learning rules, and mechanics, building trust with individuals and the community to help benefit everyone involved.
Response time and flexibility:
Due to my current real-life circumstances, my availability is incredibly extensive, providing staffing coverage for a significant amount of the day, on top of my unique time zone, which covers a much-needed understaffed period. This is paired with my unparalleled response time, striving to streamline my work process as much as possible, adding chat and notification tools to ensure I never miss anything important, even when I'm tabbed out, which makes me believe I would make a great addition to the staff team.
Staying factual and mature:
I do not like drama; I make great strides to stay removed from it, so far as to present as ambiguously as possible to prevent confrontation. But I'm aware that doesn't stop the Manacube player base from starting it on their own. It is inevitable and something I know I would be dealing with; however, in every argument, I am always facts and statements first and foremost, separating or not involving my opinions on the topic altogether, as keeping a level head and critical thinking are of the utmost value.
Please explain what you believe the role of a staff member is.
Boiled down to one sentence: to uphold the integrity of the rules.
Keeping the place you are entrusted with a safe, respectful space, to provide help wherever needed, to be dependable in times of obscurity, being the clarity between upper management and players, knowledgeable and easy to approach.
To voice the concerns of the players and listen, I want to be there for the players when they feel unheard.
Are you able to use recording software? Yes, I'm capable of using OBS as well as shadow play clipping software, plus video editing for clarity if need be.
Anything else we should know?
I've fallen incredibly ill the past couple of days, and with my cat being murdered, I've been much less avalible then i would have liked to be. I do hope to remedy this and prove myself over the coming months of my application review.
I want players to want me as staff. I wouldn't want someone I don't trust as staff as much as the next person, and I will hold myself to the same standard. By doing so, I will not promote my application to players and let them form their own opinions without feeling pressured.
