Jonas Butt

Jonas is the developer and architect for an e-commerce solution for a retail web shop. Jonas did the e-commerce technology selection and configured and customized the selected e-commerce suite (OpenCart). He is also responsible for managing the infrastructure: web and database hosting, domain name registration, e-mail setup, SSL certificate and so on.

Technologies used: OpenCart 2.2, PHP, MySQL, Mollie Payments, Bootstrap, SSL, Neostrada, Strato, GitHub among others.

Besides designing and implementing features for the API and Integration platform, Jonas went beyond this role in an effort to improve the maturity of the team and its development process, by:

- Taking the lead in setting up a Definition of Ready, Definition of Done and Definition of Released as a vehicle for needed improvements, such user story quality and software development processes (CI, CD, peer review).
- Planning and hosting developer meetings to foster knowledge sharing, promote peer reviews and facilitate discussions.
- Documenting and presenting software design principles, which have quickly been adopted and embraced by all developers in the team.
- Working with a software architect from another team to setup continuous integration and a code quality dashboard.
- Defining a simple branching and merging strategy to enable parallel development of new features and production hotfixes.
- Taking the lead in the offshoring effort, by defining a developer profile and writing a plan which includes the risks and prerequisites. Jonas also created a programming exercise, reviewed candidate profiles, wrote interview questions and held interviews.
- Work on proof of concepts of innovative ideas, such as actor model programming, Akka.NET and the Reactive Manifesto, and documented and presented the findings to stakeholders (architects, other Scrum teams).

For each two-week sprint, Jonas participated in and contributed to sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, sprint review and sprint retrospective. For the monthly releases, Jonas contributed by merging code and resolving defects.

This project delivers a Windows 8 app for finding vehicle information based on a license plate number. The app has been certified by Microsoft and published to the Windows 8 app store prior to the official launch of Windows 8.

This project involved the development of a showcase application which demonstrates the use of the Single Page Application (SPA) concept in a line of business application. Jonas’ responsibility was technology selection, solution structure setup and proof of concept creation.

SSP stands for Smart Solutions Platform and it's one of the first application development platforms Avanade has ever delivered. Client developers use the platform to increase the time to market and quality of their projects by creating Smart Apps. A typical Smart App consists of visualizations (dashboards etc.), data access and business logic and calculations. SCS is the development, management and execution environment for scheduled and triggered calculations that are modeled as either .NET assemblies or Excel workbooks, that target the Data Services Layer (DSL) and that are deployed as part of a Smart App. It is built using ASP.NET, WCF, Entity Framework, SQL Server and Windows HPC Server. Other responsibilities included working with multiple other work streams to integrate their work into SCS and to develop and integrate SSP shared components. Jonas also delivered a lunch & learn presentation sharing his knowledge of the SCS solution with the entire SSP team. During the last months on this project Jonas switched to the DSL work stream where he worked on quality improvement of the codebase. During Jonas' graduation internship he researched the possibilities of an application of Software Factories and Domain-Specific Languages to vertical business domains, in particular the utilities sector. Jonas wrote his bachelors thesis about the research and presented the findings at the graduation board.

In this project Jonas developed a Windows Forms based invoicing application. The application supports management of master data such as customers, products, orders and the generation and printing of invoices based on the master data. The application uses an Access database to store master data and a user configuration file to store settings.

Jonas was responsible for the development of a line of business web application for housing corporations. The development involved writing JSP pages and controllers using Spring MVC and developing a data layer using Hibernate. The associated project is WOSI, Woningcorporaties Open Software Initiatief (www.wosi.org and dev.wosi.org

In the role of Java developer Jonas was responsible for the development of a line of business web application for customs declarations. The main part of Jonas's efforts involved creating 25+ screens for the management of master data. The development involved writing JSP pages and controllers using Spring MVC and developing a data layer using Hibernate. Special attention was paid to authentication, authorization, user roles and workflow.
