A cubone from pokemon done in black pen on white paper. Cubone is a small dinosaur man wearing a skull and holding a bone as a club. He's wearing a ragged shirt and foot wraps.

Micron pens on paper. Sometimes I’m just a basic bitch who likes to sketch a cubone.

Love of Winter by George Wesley Bellows (1914)

Community iconc/artporn@piefed.social by
perishthethought@piefed.social

In January 1914 George Bellows wrote to a friend, “There has been none of my favorite snow. I must always paint the snow at least once a year.” Soon after, on February 13, a major blizzard hit New York City, inspiring the artist to paint Love of Winter. He used bright reds, yellows, and greens to intensify the winter scene and broad, slashing brushstrokes to convey movement, wind, and speed. The energetic group of skaters and onlookers, composed of people of a range of ages and social classes, reflects the diverse populations who enjoyed the public parks and the leisure activities they offered in early 20th-century New York City.

Mother and Child by Pablo Picasso (1921)

Community iconc/artporn@piefed.social by
perishthethought@piefed.social

In 1917 Picasso traveled to Rome to design sets and costumes for Sergei Diaghilev’s famed Ballets Russes. Deeply impressed by the ancient and Renaissance art of that city, he began painting monumental figures inspired by antiquity. His new classical style was influenced by the finely modeled odalisques of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and the late, oddly proportioned female nudes of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Mother and Child was also inspired by Picasso’s own life. Just three years earlier he had married Russian dancer Olga Khokhlova, and in 1921 their son Paolo was born. Between 1921 and 1923 he produced at least twelve works on the subject of mothers and children, returning to a theme that he had explored during his Blue Period.

Blue and Green Music by Georgia O’Keeffe (1919–21)

Community iconc/artporn@piefed.social by
perishthethought@piefed.social

Around 1920 Georgia O’Keeffe painted a number of oils exploring, as she later recalled, “the idea that music could be translated into something for the eye.” In Blue and Green Music, O’Keeffe’s colors and forms simultaneously suggest the natural world and evoke the experience of sound. She was drawn to the theories of the Russian Expressionist painter Vasily Kandinsky, who, in his 1912 text Concerning the Spiritual in Art, argued that visual artists should emulate music in order to achieve pure expression free of literary references.

@fediverseThe speed with which it happened prevented users from accessing their data, highlighting the risks of decentralized social media without backups. Its administrator ceased operations, causing confusion and data loss for many healthcare professionals who had signed up as an alternative to Twitter. This event serves as a reminder: If you follow this group, you can:1. Follow it and mention it in your messages, and it will reshare all your public posts addressed to it (this only applies to an initial message, not a reply to another message).2. Follow it only to read all the messages from fellow doctors who send messages through it.#MedMastodon

In November my doc put me on Jardience to help control my diabetes, and it was working very well. I was able to cut my insulin usage in half scale-wise, but also my urge to snack was way down further reducing my need for insulin. On December 23rd I had a complete reversal… of my digestive tract. I was throwing up and couldn’t even hold down water. This persisted for about 5 days, until I was able to tolerate half a slice of peanut butter toast and a few sips of coffee. My gf’s sister had had a similarly bad reaction to Ozempic earlier this year and her boyfriend recently ended up in the hospital with a ruptured ulcer in his stomach (also on Ozempic).
