I recently jailbroke my kindle and decided to make a custom wallpaper for it. I quite liked the idea of a cat peering around the edge of the screen, so I drew it myself.

The background is transparent, I just styled it with a background color so you can see the cat.

Data Analysis Using Makefiles

As an astrophysicist, I frequently have to perform complex data analysis, which involves performing many sequential steps, some of which may take hours to complete. I then have to fine-tune this analysis to correct errors, consider alternative methods, etc… This can be very time consuming, since each alteration requires me to not only re-run the required analysis steps, but also to figure out which steps need to be re-run. If I make a mistake, it could cost me many hours of waiting for things to re-run.

I used to be on Hyprland, but since the release of XLibre, I’ve switched back to X and am currently using dwm↗️. I’m really enjoying having the flexibility that X provides again. Wayland, almost by design, makes it difficult to rice stuff properly.

"Democratize"

Few words make me gnash my teeth more than “democratize.” It has always left a sour taste in my mouth like many other “mid-wit-isms” such as “climate-justice” or “gender-awareness”, but I could never quite put my finger on why. Democracy was supposed to be good right?

I have recently started to familiarize myself with the ideas of Hoppe, particularly his criticisms of democracy as a means of governance. In doing so I have come to realize the distinction between “democratization” and the similar, though quite distinct, “decentralization.” I have also realized why the latter is vastly superior.

Previously, the content on my site has been licensed under the Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, which permits redistribution as long as attribution is given, it isn’t for commercial purposes, and any modifications are licensed under the same terms. At first, I thought this was a good license for my work, but after thinking about it more, trying to reconcile my gut instincts with my broader views about intellectual property, I realized that the two were in conflict and I needed to change the licenses of my work to reconcile the two.

What Is a Furry?

I’m sure everyone here has an idea of what I am talking about when I use the word “furry.” Ya’know, the people that dress up as cartoon animals and attend conventions? The people that use an anthropomorphic animal as a self-insert online? The people that sometimes seem like they make up two-thirds of the personal web? Those people? Unfortunately, some of these people engage in what many (including me) would consider to be degenerate¹ behavior. As a furry myself, I cannot help but feel ashamed to be associated with these people. So let this post serve as clarification on behalf of myself and many other furries: We are not like those people. And to accompany this, I would like to offer up my own thoughts on what a furry is. And what it is not…
