We've run 300+ SonarQube to Codacy migrations. The rate climbed sharply over the past year, alongside AI coding tool adoption. Two reasons why: Math. With Verity, I'm back to building software myself. I've always built things, mostly because building software was the reason I started Codacy in the first place. But now the opportunity for Codacy is huge and I am too opinionated to stay out of shipping. Below are some thoughts of what I care about while building Verity. On the outside, Verity passed 100B observed tokens this week. But behind the scenes, that's not what we look at. To make Verity good, we take 3 things into consideration: The first one is non scalable interaction/work with users. We're talking with brilliant, opinionated and helpful folks like Erik Jost and Doug Hubbard who share their experience and their feature requests. Building for them is the most important aspect because it's more important to have fewer users who love the product than 1,000 who are indifferent. At a somewhat larger scale, we have a small set of 117 repos using Verity, and usage is increasing week on week. Retention and engagement with the product are quite good. The second one is our own testing. We use verity at Codacy and take note of any frustration. Things that irk us and need to be better. The third is a metric we invented called RUS: Run Usefulness Score. It's a score from -6 to 6 that measures how useful Verity was at a particular moment. If it has false positives or wrongly blocks an agent, it's highly penalized. If it finds a security true positive or logic bugs, it's rewarded. We've been measuring this every hour since June. The idea is that every hour, we want verity to always be positive when we add the scores together. We use it a lagging indicator of the things we ship. Recently we identified that many of the lower scores we were seeing were caused by Verity not seeing well enough the context of what Claude Code is doing. We implemented a really thorough new intelligent system to follow Claude Code and it made a big difference. RUS improved: it went from an average of +0.49 to +2.74 which doesn't seem much but we're dealing with many thousands of runs/interactions with coding agents. I believe that Verity is the best real-time peer to your coding agent in the market today. It reviews plans, code, behavior of your coding agent and it steers it in the right direction. .. and yet we have much more work to do to make it even better.
