Peter Trachtenberg is whip smart and funny and has such a breadth of interests from rock n roll to the meaning of suffering. His newest book "The Twilight of Bohemia" is all about Westbeth: The infamous Artist Housing in Greenwich Village. A series of portraits and conversations with artists living in Westbeth (where he lived for 11 years) Peter investigates what it means to be an artist, the relationship of capitalism and celebrity. He's brilliant. And funny. And smart. Check out his Substack!
There is so much here with Red Hen Press! Full disclosure, they are publishing my novel, "Talking to the Wolf" in 2026, but this is more than gratitude to recommend their very cool, wide-ranging, substack which will lead you to independent voices, and events, and the whole reason that Red Hen is one of the leading independent presses! Do check this out and support the kind of work they are doing as literary citizens in a time book bans and cuts in funding. Plus it's very fun over there!
I'm not a believer in any traditional religions, but I am loving this new substack from two brilliant, thoughtful, literary women, Rene Steinke and Stephanie Paulsell. They are writing about seers, thinkers, dreamers, and how we find our way. Check it out!
