Mathematics and Computer Science
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Rutgers University-Newark offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science in the Newark College of Arts and Sciences and in the University College. In addition, the department offers a minor is the areas of Math, Computer Science, and Data Science.
The Department also offers a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences. This is a joint Ph.D. program with the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Graduate faculties from both institutions provide research opportunities in a variety of fields including Algebra, Analysis, Geometric Group Theory, Kleinian Groups, Low - dimensional Topology, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Representation Theory and Teichmüller Theory. This is a rigorous program in mathematics consisting of extensive course work and original research in one of the department's many fields of expertise leading to a dissertation. Typically, the program is completed in five to six years.
