Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Joined the National Hockey
League for the 1976-77 season and played two seasons in the NHL. The franchise had
transferred from the California Golden Seals. The
Barons never made the playoffs. They had a similar problem to the Oakland version of the
franchise, Cleveland did not have a big-league arena, and home games were played well
outside the city of Cleveland, in Richfield, Ohio. In fact things were so bad that the
team was merged with the Minnesota North Stars after the 1977-78 season, and not
surprisingly, with the infusion of talent gained from the merger with the Barons, the
Stars finished the following season with a losing record and out of the playoffs, ending a
less-than legendary California/Oakland/Cleveland legacy.
