- Born in Hradec Kr�lov�, Czechoslovakia. One of the fastest Czechoslovakian players
ever. He had tremendous acceleration and had a deadly touch around the net. He started his
career as a Centre but was a left winger most of his career. He played on a line together
with Vlastimil Bubnik and Slavomir Barton and later Vladimir Pantucek. They were
feared by league opponents for many years.
International Career : On the national team he played mostly on a
line with Bubnik and Milan Charouzd. Played for Czechoslovakia
80 times, scoring 45 goals, in six World Championships
(1952-56 and 1960), the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics.

- Davey, John Gerald 'Gerry' (1914- )

Born Barking, Essex, England. Right-wing and defenceman. Learnt to play hockey at Port
Arthur with Elmwood Midgets when taken to Canada as a small boy.
International Career : Instant international selection came for the
5'-8" 150lb fast skating sniper. He netted seven of Great
Britain's 11 goals in the 1932 European
Championship in Berlin (he went on to play for GB between 1932 and 1948).
In
1936 Davey came from his sick bed to net the go-ahead goal, 40 seconds into the 2-1 win
over Canada, helping to ensure the Olympic gold medal for
Great Britain. He scored 43 goals for GB and retains the leading goal scorer honours to
this day. The only players in the modern era to approach Davey's record are Tony Hand and Kevin
Conway.
Club Career (playing) : In 1931 his mother returned to England with
16 year old Gerry, who with the assistance of a London newspaper joined the Princes club, moving on to Streatham
two years later after a short stint with Zurich. He had two seasons in Scotland with Falkirk Lions from 1938 to 1940, then he spent several of
the war years in the Canadian Navy which included playing hockey in the Toronto Services
league. He returned to Streatham with his English wife in 1946 and droped back to defence,
he moved to Wembley Lions during the 1947-48 season. A
few years of refereeing followed including a brief return to action in the Southern Intermediate League with the Streatham Royals of 1949-50.
