Port to Drupal 8

jludwig made a module at https://www.drupal.org/project/views_area_link with nearly identical functionality.

The D8 port is based on that

Here's the same functionality for D8. https://www.drupal.org/project/views_area_link

I was just notified that this module exsted for D7 and will be getting in contact with the maintainer to merge the projects.
