A ceremony to confer the title of Doctor Honoris Causa upon Dr. Fouad Bennis, Professor Emeritus of École Centrale de Nantes, was held at the Mita Public Speaking Hall (Mita Enzetsu-kan) at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 6.
Dr. Fouad Bennis has been a key partner in Keio University’s academic collaborations for many years. Through initiatives such as the double degree program with the Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology and his spring seminar on French language and culture, he has helped strengthen ties between Keio University and École Centrale de Nantes, supporting opportunities that have benefited more than 300 students over the years.
He has also focused on creating networks in industry and interdisciplinary cooperation related to the field of robotics, working tirelessly to find real-world applications for research findings. In honor of these achievements, Keio University decided to confer upon him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
At the ceremony, Professor Shinnosuke Obi of the Faculty of Science and Technology served as master of ceremonies, Dean Toshiyuki Murakami read the citation, and President Kohei Itoh conferred the honorary degree. Following this, President Itoh paid tribute to Dr. Bennis’s achievements, and Professor Xavier Bressaud, counselor for science and technology at the French Embassy in Japan, delivered a congratulatory address.

École Centrale de Nantes and Keio University have maintained a longstanding and fruitful relationship, particularly in the field of science and engineering, and they hope to continue and expand on these collaborations in the future.
