This newly published study presents fresh insights into the evolution of the Suhum Basin within the Rhyacian Birimian terrane of Ghana, drawing on integrated petrographic and geochemical evidence from paraschist and orthoamphibolite units. The work reflects the collective efforts and dedication of the research team(Daniel Asiedu,Daniel Kwayisi (PhD),Abigail Ayikwei,Raymond Kazapoe, chris Anani) whose collaboration and expertise made this contribution to West African geology possible.

Most geoscience programs still teach theory but leave a massive gap in real-world digital capability. When you apply for a role, companies don’t care that you “know Python.” They care whether you can use it to produce credible industry signals. I’m tired of seeing brilliant African geoscientists graduate with degrees but no proof they can operate in real subsurface workflows. So, GC Africa is doing something about it. We’re launching a 6-Week Cohort: Python for Geoscience — a tech-enabled talent pipeline, not a coding class. What this pilot actually builds: • The Output Depth plots, trend analysis, anomaly detection, and spatial maps — like the subsurface interpretation shown below. • The Thinking How geoscientists move from raw data → geological meaning → decisions. • The Signal Practical proof of capability that reduces hiring risk for employers. Excited to share our new research on Ghana’s oil & gas carbon footprint! Our team used probabilistic modeling to assess greenhouse gas emissions from Ghana’s three producing fields since 2010. Key finding: the industry has contributed 92+ million tonnes CO₂ equivalent with a carbon intensity of 152 kgCO₂e/barrel - significantly higher than global benchmarks like Norway (36 kgCO₂e/barrel). With 86% of emissions from gas flaring and projections showing 48% emissions growth by 2030 under business-as-usual, this baseline assessment is crucial for tracking Ghana’s net-zero commitments. Honored to serve as a Committee Member at the 2025 Eastern Section AAPG Meeting in Columbus, Ohio. This year’s meeting brought together exceptional geoscientists and engineers advancing subsurface characterization, reservoir modeling, and the integration of machine learning in petroleum geology. It was a privilege to contribute and to represent The Ohio State University among such an accomplished community. Special appreciation to Amy L. Lang, Ashley Douds , and Stuart Skopec for their outstanding organization and leadership in making this event a success. It was also a pleasure meeting Chuck Knox and learning more about his impressive work applying machine learning to geological interpretation and exploration workflows — a direction that continues to reshape the future of energy geoscience. Engaging discussions on predictive modeling, reservoir quality evolution, and AI-driven data analytics reinforced how collaborative efforts across disciplines are driving the next frontier of exploration and energy research.
