Ultra-realistic, social-by-default video raises new operating questions for enterprises: managing likeness rights, verifying provenance/watermarks, setting pilot guardrails for brand and copyright risk, and mapping controls to your governance framework (e.g., NIST RMF / ISO 42001). Canada spent $51.7B on R&D last year. More than half of the IP we create ends up assigned to foreign companies. Canada’s 2024 IP Report shows this isn’t an anomaly, it’s a growing trend. We fund the innovation. Someone else captures the value. The problem isn’t invention. It’s commercialization. More specifically, it’s the gap between world-class research and production-ready MVPs that can attract capital and remain in Canadian hands. Exportable IP isn’t just a founder problem. It’s a sovereignty problem. When your technical scope is unclear, your ownership structure is fragile, and your MVP is built offshore, you’re not just risking execution issues. You’re exporting control. Data sovereignty and local presence aren’t buzzwords. They’re the difference between building a globally competitive company here or licensing your breakthrough onto someone else’s cap table. We don’t need more R&D dollars. We need better translation from lab to market and founders who own what they build.

Toronto — are you ready for self-driving taxis? 🚕🤖 Waymo, the self-driving taxi division of Alphabet (Google’s parent company), is engaging with city officials about the potential development of bylaws and regulations that could pave the way for autonomous taxis here. There’s also local R&D activity. Canadian supplier Magna International has participated in pilot programs testing self-driving delivery vehicles in Toronto, offering an early glimpse into how the technology performs in real-world conditions. And let’s be honest: Toronto’s congestion, constant construction, and gridlock are exactly the kind of challenges autonomous technology aims to address. Early industry data suggests these systems can make fewer serious driving errors than humans in specific, controlled environments. But the real question is trust—whether you’d feel comfortable relying on the technology to navigate downtown traffic and handle Canadian winters. Personally, I say bring it on—with the right testing, regulation, and transparency. This city needs better solutions to mobility and congestion, and if autonomous taxis can prove they’re safe, reliable, and winter-ready, they could help ease one of Toronto’s biggest daily frustrations. This isn’t a question of if — it’s a question of when and how. So when one pulls up on a cold February morning… would you get in?

I see this from many companies that I talk to. This is where Kavia’s options to pick your own LLM and our knowledge graph comes into play. In our experience, most tasks could be done with a fraction of cost with Kavia
