HISTORY
Maruti Udyog Limited (Maruti Suzuki India Limited since

2007) was founded in the year 1981 and their first car - The Maruti 800, was launched in the year 1983.
Maruti Suzuki has been the leader of the Indian car market for

over two and a half decades.


It was established with the objectives of - modernizing the

Indian automobile industry, producing fuel efficientvehicles to conserve scarce resources and producing indigenous utility cars for the growing needs of the Indianpopulation.

The company has two manufacturing facilities located at Gurgaon and Manesar, south of New

Delhi, India.
In August 2010 Maruti Suzuki introduced factory

fitted CNG option on 5 models across vehicle segments.


In 2011-12, the company sold over 1.13 million vehicles including 1,27,379 units of exports.

Currently Suzuki holds 54.2% stake of Maruti, the balance being held by

various QIBs, PCBs and Public.


On BSE, Maruti has the highest market capitalisation in the auto sector. The turnover last year was USD 3.37 Bn employing more than 6700

employees.

The success of Maruti 800 soon made Maruti the largest

car maker in India, which the company maintains even today. Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing plants are located at Gurgaon and Manesar near Delhi. Maruti Suzuki India Limited is headquartered at Delhi.
Maruti has the widest dealer and service network in India. It is most likely to find a Maruti Service center even in the

remotest towns of India.
