FABRIC KNOWLEDGE FOR MERCHANDISERS - II Course Code: Course Objective:
Knowledge is power and for retailers, product knowledge can mean more sales. Current trends indicate that, organized retailing will become increasingly popular where the fabric will be purchased directly from the manufacturer. Emphasis is also on materials sourcing, including how it differs from fabric and trim purchasing which helps them to acquire skills they need to compete in the textiles and clothing market.

Module I: Product Knowledge & Sourcing (Individual Project) Identify/Select the Product - Structure, component, cost, end uses, domestic & global sourcing systems. Major production centers with their respective uniqueness, Distribution channels, market segment, industry/ government standards. Module II: Current trends in the Industry Understanding trends in the apparel & home fashion industry, their importance for styling & forecasting. Research & track trends for specific target markets national/ international Module III: Textile Quality Assurance Understanding quality assurance, standards & specifications, Materials testing, product specifications & analysis. Module IV: Presentation & Viva Preparation of Dissertation file as per Module I III
