HOMEWORK, GRADING & OTHER POLICIES

Supplies. For this class, students need:

Notebook: a single-subject notebook (spiral, composition, or
small 3-ring), every day.
Pens & Pencils: every day.
Homework planner: every day.
Text book: distributed in first full week.
Attendance.
Tardies. On time means to be in your seat when the bell rings.
Arriving late is a disruption of the class.
Absences. It is the students responsibility to get absences excused,
and to make up work missed due to an absence.
Homework.
Homework will generally be assigned daily, and should be completed
in or taped into the notebook, unless otherwise instructed.
Assignments done in the history notebook are date-stamped by me
to confirm Ive checked them.
Parents: If there is no stamp, I have not seen that assignment.
Grading. To receive full credit, work must be done completely and
thoroughly and turned in by the due date.
Completeness means complete sentences, details, proper nouns,
explanations.
Completeness is determined by me and not negotiable.
The Source shows which assignments that have been received and
graded. I generally update grades at least every two weeks, usually
on Monday afternoons.
This reports what has happened in the past, whether work
has been completed and turned in for grading.
When checking to see if missed work has been recorded,
please note that the Source page has a Grades last updated
date at the bottom.
If that date is BEFORE the date I stamped the late work, it will
appear the next time I update the gradebook.
If that date is SINCE the date I stamped the late work, by all
means let me know I missed it and I will correct it.
My Blog (mrlocklin-wh.weebly.com) shows current assignments,
with links to necessary files and web pages. I update the blog page
daily, and the current days announcement appears at the top.
This page reports what is happening now, what students
should be completing for the next class day.
NOTE: Neither of these tools should replace students keeping their
own daily homework planner, including checking off work that has
been turned or checked (stamped) by me.

OFFICE HOURS:
2:30 - 4:00 Monday, Tuesday
& Thursday.
Grades on the Source. In
addition to awarding points, or
using the standard A-E scale, I
also use the following:
cr = 100%
I or Inc = incomplete = 50%
L = late = 65%
M = missing = 0
AA = exceptional = 105%
ext = extension granted
recd = I have it, its not yet
graded
ex = excused
U = unexcused absence = 0

Extra Credit. I will negotiate
extra credit only with students
who are missing no work.
However, I may from time to
time offer class-wide options
for extra credit, which are open
to all. I will also grant extra
credit to exceptional work that
stands out.
Neatness Counts. If I
cant read it, its wrong, or
perhaps invisible.
Coats & Backpacks. If coats
and backpacks will not fit under
your desk, they need to stay in
your locker.
Food & Drinks are not
allowed in class, except for
water.
Late Work. I accept late work up to four weeks after it was due, or
until the Last Day for Late Work for the quarter (one week before
the end of the quarter), whichever comes first.
Late work not due to absences will earn only 65%.
Extra copies of any handouts are filed in the room in the Extra
Handouts drawer. The file marked WH is for World History.
Students with excused absences have one week from the date of
return to:
complete and turn in missed work for on-time credit.
come after school to make up a missed test.
There is a late box for each period at the front of the room.
Students with an unexcused absence or tardy:
are not excused from assignments and cannot make them up,
may not turn in that days homework for on-time credit, and
will not be allowed to make up a missed test. This includes
the semester final.
Please note that the BHS attendance policy is that students must
clear absences within three days of returning to school.
Per school district policy, family vacations are unexcused
absences.
Electronics. Cell phones and other electronic devices need to be
turned off and put away before entering the classroom, and are to stay
out of sight until after you have left the room. If it rings or vibrates,
ignore it. Parents: do not expect your child to respond to calls or
messages during class time. Please note the BHS policy in the Student
Handbook:
iPODS, RADIOS, WALKMANS, BEEPER/PAGERS, CELL PHONES AND
OTHER SUCH DEVICES. These items lead to disruption and shall not
be used during regular school hours. Cell phones must be turned off
and put away during class time. Any devices turned on during class
time are subject to confiscation.
I will give you one (1) verbal warning and then confiscate it.
The second time the device will be turned over to administration.
The exceptions: Smart phones can be useful tools. To avoid problems,
students should ask first before taking out phones for these purposes.
For starters, I suggest the following apps for a student phone:
dictionary, spelling helper
