Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd to support environmental protection. It was founded in 1970 by US Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental movement. There are many ways to celebrate Earth Day, such as joining environmental groups, planting trees, and picking up litter. Some of the biggest problems facing the environment are litter, habitat loss, and pollution. Litter can be reduced by using litter bags, reporting littering, and encouraging cleanups. Habitat loss is caused by development, roads, and pollution, which destroys animal homes. Pollution from various sources threatens wildlife and could make the human race extinct if not addressed. Individual actions like reducing waste and driving less can help the environment.

Earth day

Where this day is dedicated to Earth

What is Earth day?

Earth day, is the anniversary of the birth of the earths environmental

movement. This event takes place on April 22nd. This holiday started in
America, in 1970.

Who is Gaylord nelson?

Gaylord Nelson is the founder of Earth Day. Here are some little known
facts about him
1. He is better known as The Father of Earth Day
2. He was in Clearwater, Wisconsin in 1916
3. He represented the U.S. Senate for 18 years!
4. He is famous for the idea of Earth Day

How do I Celebrate this Holiday

There are many things people are doing to celebrate this environmental
holiday. One thing you can do is join an environment group! There are
such simple things that you can do to celebrate Earth Day. Some of
these things include planting trees, caring for animals, picking up trash,
and just go green! Remember that it doesnt have to be Earth Day to go
pick up trash on he beach. You dont have to live somewhere dirty to
pick up trash. We live in Oviedo, and we arent buried in trash, but we
can plant trees no matter where you live! Every day is Earth Day!

What Problems are we Facing?

There are many problems that the world. Here are the top three that I
think that people need to be aware of.

1. Litter

We litter whether it is on accident or on purpose. Here are five things that

we can do to prevent this from happening.

1. Keep a litter bag in your car so that if there are no trash cans around,
you can just put the trash in the bag

2. Report the people who litter

3. Make sure to put more trash cans and recycling bins where they are
more noticeable so people can throw their trash in the bins, instead of
throwing them on the floor.

4. Clean up around your neighborhood. Every piece of trash counts!

5. Encourage other people to go green!

2. Habitat Loss

We build houses, malls, restaurants, and so much more! But where does
this leave room for the animals? We take up so much space, we have to
destroy animals homes! Here are some facts about this subject

1. There are three main types of this: destruction, fragmentation, and

degradation

2. Destruction is when we destroy the land around us to make room for

houses shopping plazas, restaurants, and more.

3. Fragmentation is when we tear down a habitat for roads and parking

lots

4. Degradation is pollution and invasive species that can destroy

habitats

5. The three main drivers of habitat loss are agriculture, land conversion
for development, and water development.

3. Pollution

I think that this is the most harmful reason. I think people should be more
concerned about this. Here are some facts that I think that you should know
about pollution.

1. Ocean litter, pesticides, fertilizers, air pollution, and noise and light
pollution all cause this.

2. If we dont stop polluting the Earth, the human race might be extinct

3. Pollution can badly hurt animals

4. You can carpool, walk, or ride you bike to school to prevent this from
happening

5. People should consider getting electric cars. They are more expensive, but
in the long run, the are cheaper because you wont have to pay for gas, and
you are helping the environment.

What can I do to Help?

There are many simple things you can do to help the environment.
These things include: picking up litter around you neighborhood,
planting trees, using less water, and so much more!
