HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2012 is O-V-E-R, Im assuming the world didnt end (oh you Mayansincorrigible), and now 2013 is totalllly here. Who woulda thought? Im writing this circa a month ahead of time, so Im really banking on the fact that I survived my trip to Australia sans crocodile attack (whichsue meis a TOTALLY LEGITIMATE FEAR) and will be here to write another one of these delightfully pointless letters come next month. ANYWAYSSS, before I dive into why the January issue is great, Id rather just tell you what you need to check out this month that, personally, Im completely obsessed with and cant help but share with you: @SeinfeldToday: The best thing for Seinfeld lovers in withdrawal, this account just tweets out plots for the sitcom if it were to come on today. Complete genius. Imagine Dragons: If you havent downloaded their debut album, you should havelike a million years ago. Plus theyre touring this spring with Atlas Genius. Shits sold out soooo if you wanna scalp me some tickets, you know where to find me. Capital City Bakery: The Facebook page for this cupcake-oriented bakery is pure food porn and utterly amazing. A food trailer located on Rio Grande and MLK near campus, its hands-down the most amazing in town. Oh, and its all vegan. Heaven in yo mouth. Now that Ive blacked out fantasizing about cupcakes for 45 minutes, I just remembered that this is our HOT BODY issue, so I guess I should be fantasizing about treadmills instead. Yeah. Anyways, turn the pages for the best tips, tricks and strategies to help you get fit and fabulous in 2013. (Because those New Years resolutions arent going to accomplish themselves, ya dig?!) Weve also got the winners of our Top Bachelor and Top Bachelorette contests, so if love is on your agenda for 2013hellhit em up. Heres cheers to new years!

HOT BARTENDER

WORDS: MARIA ROQUE PHOTO: ANDREA REESING

PICKLE SHOOTER
THE HOTTEST SHOT IN TOWN
There arent many flavors better than the tangy and salty taste of pickle juice with your favorite shot, but have you ever wondered where the heavenly brine you are drinking came from? Pickle Shooter is a new product made by Aftertaste Beverages, LLC, and its the original pickle-flavored bar mixpickle juice in a bottle! Aftertaste Beverages is a local company, and Pickle Shooter is an Austin product, distributed locally to make unique drinks. Unfortunately not all bars are serving this wonderful beverage. Many are getting their pickle brine in less than ideal ways. Some simply buy pickles and use the juice they come in. The barbarity! All those perfectly good pickles are going to waste. In other cases bars buy pickle juice waste from local burger joints. Think of all the greasy hamburger hands and chicken fingers reaching into the jar to grab pickles before the excess juice is sold to the bar that makes your drink. Not only is that grossits just plain unsanitary. Pickle Shooter is here to the rescue, though! It is a completely sanitary, but most importantly, tasty product. Its great after a shot of vodka, tequila, or whiskey and can also be used to mix up some delicious drinks like a dillrita or pickletini. Pickle Shooter assures that no pickles are harmed in the making of their product. Keep an eye out for the Drunken Pickle downtown, a costume pickle running around serving up free samples of Pickle Shooter. Stay tuned for promotions and events at facebook.com/ drunkenpickle, and follow him on Twitter @drunkenpickle. Make sure your next pickle shot is Pickle Shooter!

T RA E-THE LAST MONTHS WINNERS: T -DA E Festive Fun

You voted and--in a close match--Victoria won a date with Dane! The crazy kids met at Austin's Pizza right before break for some mid-finals fun, but did their hearts melt for each other like mozzarella or was the date a total dud? Read and find out...
Dane Jeske Victoria Celis

The date with Victoria was great! We talked mostly just about college experiences and such, but she was very interesting and also quite funny. We also talked a lot about our spirit organizations (Me: Absolute Texxas, her: Darlins), which she is now currently the president of. That was another great thing we had in common since I also served as President of AT a while back. Overall, Victoria was a great date and I had an awesome time hanging out with her over a few drinks. Definitely happy I signed up for the Study Breaks blind date.

I had a great time with Dane at Austins Pizza. We had a lot in common and really bonded over the organizations we are in. He was the President of Absolute Texxas and I will be the President of Texas Wrangler Darlins, so he gave me some pointers and weve already set up a mixer between us for the spring semester. Dane is definitely a gentleman and one of the nicest, down to earth guys Ive met while at UT. The date went well and Im sure well be hanging out again soon!

COMPILED BY: JANE HERVEY PHOTOS: ANDREA RESSING, PRESS

FIND THE PERFECT STYLE FOR YOUR

Cute & Curvy

If youve got it, flaunt it. For your curvy figure, use a pair of tights as a means to color block. Choose a dark purple or a deep mahogany. Then wear a dress that accentuates that smallest part of you (usually the area right underneath your chest). Voila! A match made in heaven.

Your proportional torso comes in handy, but its time to give yourself some waist! Pair dark neutral tights like black, brown, or gray with your favorite dress. Belt that sucker and youve got a case of the curves.

Theyre so versatile and can be worn with anything. Theyre a quick go-to outfit.

Its an easy way to add a pop of color.

R SHAPE!

The winter season calls for ladys timeless fashion accessory tights. However, its the 21st century, which means theres no reason to bust out your mothers torn pantyhose. You want tights that love your bodyand, of course, give you a reason to postpone shaving your legs. Check out these tights for your body type!

Tall & Trendy

Embrace your height. Youve got legs for days, so show em off! Try out patterned tights with bold colors or a confident lacey look. Underneath shorts, youll be turning heads wherever you go.

Tights are perfect for your tiny frame, but you dont want to overpower your small size. Choose a subtle, sexy pair of tights. A nude or light gray pair with an elegant pattern will add the perfect amount of pizazz to your outfit without overdoing it.

HOT BODY GUIDE

MYTHBUSTERS!
Debunking Diet Misconceptions
if you do not suffer from Celiac Disease, there is no reason for you to not eat foods with glutenthere are no added health benefits. MYTH: WEIGHT IS THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE DIET SUCCESS TRUTH: HEALTH IS THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE DIET SUCCESS Your weight is one of the easiest ways to tell whether youre accomplishing your health goals, but weighing yourself every day or after every gym session and expecting to see a drastic change is unrealistic and can just be discouraging. MYTH: NO PAIN, NO GAIN TRUTH: PAIN CAN BE AN INDICATOR OF A SERIOUS PROBLEM While feeling sore after going H.A.M. in the gym is normal, feeling pain can be a sign that something not okay, especially if you arent used to working out. Take your time, pace yourself and work up to your goals to prevent injuries. If you feel unbearable pain from working out excessively, make sure you see a physician and take a little easier next time, Rocky.

BURN CALS THE EASY WAY!

Sneaky ways to get slim
1. STEP IT UP Adding stairs and skipping the elevator will add some tone to your bootay and hamstrings while burning calories you otherwise would have kept throughout the day. 2. USE A LOTTA LOT Park further than you normally would. It is always tempting to take that front row spot, but park a little further away and book it to the door to add some cardio to your day! 3. MUNCH IN THE MORNING One good guide is to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. A common mistake is skiping breakfast but thats skipping the opportunity to jump-start your metabolism! Eat most of your calories with your breakfast, and your body will burn calories faster throughout the day. 4. GET YO H2O Drinking your eight cups a day will boost your metabolic rate by about 30%! 5. WALK IT OUT Turn on your jams and walk like youre on a mission. Youve seen those power-walkers at the mall; they know what theyre doing! 6. DONT SKIP THE STARBUCKS Caffeine also increases your metabolic rate. Just make sure youre not drinking so much that you get dehydrated. 7. HIT THE SHEETS Getting sleep isnt always easy, but research shows that not getting enough sleep is linked to weight gain and metabolism drops. 8. SPICE IT UP Research shows that spicy foods can increase your metabolism. 9. SIT UP STRAIGHT Good posture works your abs and burns calories without you even realizing it! 10. GRAB SOME GUM Chewing gum will not only burn a few calories, but will keep you from eating when youre not hungry by keeping your mouth occupied.

TOTAL FRAT MOVE

SWEETHEART OF THE MONTH

Devan Stehl

PROVIDED BY: TOTALFRATMOVE.COM

Age: 20 Height: 53 School: Southern Methodist Unversity Major: Political Science and Communications Relationship Status: Single One thing that impresses you when youre out on a date? When he opens car doors and plans surprise dates! Whats the creepiest move a guy has ever tried to pull on you? I was on a flight and this creepy older man kept winking at me, I hurried to my connecting flight only to find that he was also on that plane. The line decided to stop while I was right next to his seat where he proceeded to ask how old I was. If that wasnt enough, he was waiting for me by the baggage claim. Thank goodness I found some friends and ran to safety! All-time favorite TFM or TSM? Well with my political aspirations it has to be Always choosing red solo cups because the blue ones remind me of liberals. TFM.

To start going to class. Until youre bored out of your mind ten minutes into the first lecture. To spend less money at the bar. Until youre eight shots deep, wielding your parents American Express. To start going to the gym. Until you puke during your first lap on the track and decide drinking is more fun. To start being safer with sex. Until you rationalize your irresponsibility with Im hammered and he/she is hot. To stop swearing so often. Until your first parking ticket of the semester. To call your parents more often. Until your mom rambles about reality TV for an hour when you call. To quit smoking/dipping. Until your first blackout or Adderall studying binge. To stop texting your ex. Until youre hammered and want some strange. To start branching out. Until you realize that if anyone else was cool youd already be friends. To stop drinking so much. Until one text that reads Bars? gives you the undeniable urge to rage.

Released: Jan. 25th Directed by Chris Farrelly of Theres Something About Mary fame, this comedic clusterf**k features roughly a million actors, including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, Americas favorite asshole, Johnny Knoxville and more. Which essentially makes it this months New Years Eve or Valentines Day. But hopefully more funny and less terrible.

Were uber amped (yes, uber amped) for the second season premiere of HBOs irresistible, brilliant series, Girls. Like a more realistic, more awkward Sex and the City for the 20-something set, season 2 is sure to bring about more horrifyingly un-glam (but totally entertaining) portrayals of living as a young Girlin NYC. Yay for sex scenes!

HEALTHY HINTS FROM MARIA CALLENDER

Loading up on filling veggies with few calories helps you stay satisfied and slim! If you want an extra kick, add paprika or red pepper flakes to your kale and eggplant chips. One of the best ways to give some extra flavor to food without adding sodium is with fresh herbs like parsley and thyme. Baked apples with cinnamon have very few caloriesonly 95!

INGREDIENTS 5-6 granny smith apples (make sure they can stand on their own) 1 tsp. of cinnamon 1/4 cup of sugar 1 tbsp. brown sugar 1 pkg. pre-made piecrust DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350 F. 2. Cut off the top of 4 apples off and discard. Remove the inside of each apple with a spoon or melon baller very carefully, as to not puncture the peel. Try to salvage as much of the insides as possible. 3. Remove skin from remaining apple(s) and slice very thinly for additional filling later. 4. Mix sliced apples with sugars and cinnamon in a bowl. MUST DO

ouve eaten Ramen for the past three months, and you cant remember the last time you put gas in your car. Well, heres some good news for you, broke college kid. Despite your lack of cash flow, this years spring break doesnt have to reflect your cheapskate semester. If you book with Inertia Tours, you can spend 4 nights and 5 days on South Padre Island for only $250 dollars. Plus, you get 2 dine-out meals per day and a $30 dollar gas card. Not to mention, you can hit up Coca Cola Beach, spend your drunken nights at the best beach bars around and kick back at one of the top ten spring break spots in the United States. So snatch up this steal and hit that sand for the week of a lifetime. You know you need a tan.

ING INERTIAS TOP 10 TIPS FOR SAVING YOUR BUCKS AND HAV
a reason you can drive there, theres no passport or flight, and youll get the total lowest cost. 3. Book early. Booking in early January instead of February will cut the condo/hotel costs by up to 40 percent. 4. Bring supplies with you: a cooler, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, koozie, even paper plates and cups. 5. Purchase snacks and basic food at Wal-Mart or H-E-B before you leave home. 6. Pack your SUV or car for the road trip as full as possible. Put six or even eight people in a large SUV. The more people, the more ways to split gas cost. 7. Shorten the length of your trip. Going from seven nights to four nights will reduce the trip cost by 35 percent per person. 8. Pre-purchase your alcohol BEFORE you arrive on South Padre Island, because liquor stores and convenient stores will mark the price up. 9. Book maximum occupancy at your condo or hotel. This allows you to split the overall cost as many ways as possible. 10. Make sure you do some homework thats not

A BLAST:

1. Get an out the door price in writing with all of the taxes and fees possible included from your booking agency. This means no scams and no hidden fees. Book several rooms or condos together as a group and use a tour company to get a slight discount. 2. Book a U.S. destination. Theyre selling red hot for

his year, you want to stick to your New Years Resolutions and actually drop some of those pounds you gained over the fall semester. Luckily for you, we talked to Austins Anytime Fitness authority Glen Langford about how to stay in tip-top shape during 2013. These next few tips will help you finally score that beach body before Spring Break.

Q: If youre trying to lose weight, should you focus more on working out or eating better? A: To lose weight in the first place, calories in must be lower than calories out to create a deficit so that the body burns some fat each day. Short term, weight loss is mainly in the kitchen, but do not ignore the gym. Long term, weight management is in the gym, but do not ignore the kitchen. Q: What should a beginner focus on when they go to the gym? A: To get started, any part of the gym is great. Get in there and move for 45 minutes at 80% of your perceived maximum exertion. About 80% of the battle is just getting to the gym and doing something or anything.

Mostly As: BEN RAPELESBERGER
.uhhRoethlisberger. Youll play a game on two broken legs and force yourself on some ladies afterwards. Nothing can stop youbesides the law.

Mostly Bs: TIMOTHY TEBOW

Fresh out of the Bible Belt (maybe?), youre part of one of the worst QB tandems of all time, but youre damn excited about it. Youre also a very nice Christian man, so anyone that hates you is probably on the highway to hell, or at least on Santas naughty list.

Mostly Cs: TOM BRADY

Youre one of the best QBs ever and one good looking sum bitch. Youve been running the league for years and youre married to a supermodel, so youre pretty much living the American dream. However, something about you just screams douchebag.

Mostly Ds: PEYTON MANNING

Youre also one of the greatest QBs of all time, and it seems like youre always breaking some sort of record. Between your on-field play and TV commercials, its hard not to like you. You also just bought several Papa Johns franchises in Colorado where marijuana was just legalizedcrafty.

Mostly Es: TONY ROMO

When youre good, youre good, but when youre bad, youre bad. According to Cowboys fans, youre supposed to lead them to the Super Bowl every year but you dont. It appears that youve never been the same since the infamous 2006 Wild Card game against the Seahawks, but at least you make the Cowboys funny to watch.

THATS A FACT JACK

It takes approximately 20 minutes for your brain to know that your stomach is full. Similar to fingerprints, everyone also has a unique tongue print. Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour. That works out to about 1.5 pounds each year, so the average person will lose around 105 pounds of skin by age 70. Your nose can remember 50,000 different scents. The average person produces about 25,000 quarts of saliva enough to fill two swimming pools!

Sagittarius - Your independent streak will help you break from the routine and challenge yourself in the gym. Capricorn - Happy Birthday! What better way to celebrate yourself than by going out? Make sure you look good by getting some workouts in before your birthday bash. Aquarius - Happy Birthday to you too!
Your creativity will help you plan the best birthday celebration you have ever had. Dancing is a great way to celebrate and burn some cals!

Pisces - Motivate your friends to jump on the fitness train with you. They will thank you later, and you will all have fun in the process.
