Wow what a roller coaster ride weve been on with this crazy weathergeez dont know if winter is coming or going with 70s one day, 40s the next, jumpin up to 60 something then nose dive back down into the 30s with snow. Unbelievable! Well, hopefully the warm temps will be here to stay real soon. The event calendar has started a little flow rolling for the 2013 riding season. Each month youll see more & more filling those pages. If you have a ride or event planned or know of one that isnt in our calendar, please get it submitted on our site. This is the only way that it will get listed in the print magazine. Our online calendar is updated daily so you can get the latest scoop on whats coming up. I cant stress enough how important it is to get these in as soon as you can. The sooner the better so folks know about what you have planned which will bring a larger attendance to raise money for your charities or more company for your party. Its all about working together out there & sharing the calendar with everyone. Theres a lot of events going down this year so please try to be considerate to others who are holding events & not purposely schedule yours on the same date as someone else. Theres plenty of dates to share & a big calendar to do it on too. We are working hard to try to get more correspondents and sales people onboard with us this year. PRESIDENTS DAY February 18, 2013
To some, the observance of Presidents Day in the United States goes very much unnoticed. Local newspapers splash ads of Presidents Day Sales! and many get the day off from work. But have you ever stopped to think about this important day of recognition? History Presidents Day is intended (for some) to honor all the American presidents, but most significantly George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. According to the Gregorian or New Style calendar that is most commonly used today, George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. But according to the Julian or Old Style calendar that was used in England until 1752, his birth date was February 11th. Back in the 1790s, Americans were split - some celebrated his birthday on February 11th and some on February 22nd. When Abraham Lincoln became president and helped reshape our country, it was believed he, too, should have a special day of recognition. Tricky thing was that Lincolns birthday fell on February 12th. Prior to 1968, having two presidential birthdays so close together didnt seem to bother anyone. February 22nd was observed as a federal public holiday to honor the birthday of George Washington and February 12th was observed as a public holiday to honor Abraham Lincolns birthday. In 1968, things changed when the 90th Congress was determined to create a uniform system of federal Monday holidays. They voted to shift three existing holidays (including Washingtons Birthday) to Mondays. The law took effect in 1971, and as a result, Washingtons Birthday holiday was changed to the third Monday in February. But not all Americans were happy with the new law. There was some concern that Washingtons identity would be lost since the third Monday in February would never fall on his actual birthday. There was also an attempt to rename the public holiday Presidents Day, but the idea didnt go anywhere since some believed not all presidents deserved a special recognition. Even though Congress had created a uniform federal holiday law, there was not a uniform holiday title agreement among the individual states. Some states, like California, Idaho, Tennessee and Texas chose not to retain the federal holiday title and renamed their state holiday Presidents Day. From that point forward, the term Presidents Day became a marketing phenomenon, as advertisers sought to capitalize on the opportunity for three-day or week-long sales. In 1999, bills were introduced in both the U.S. House (HR-1363) and Senate (S-978) to specify that the legal public holiday once referred to as Washingtons Birthday be officially called by that name once again. Both bills died in committees. Today, Presidents Day is well accepted and celebrated. Some communities still observe the original holidays of Washington and Lincoln, and many parks actually stage reenactments and pageants in their honor. The National Park Service also features a number of historic sites and memorials to honor the lives of these two presidents, as well as other important leaders.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 16, 2013 This year, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation celebrates 40 years of providing motorcyclists with rider training and education in its mission to create and support motorcyclists of good riding character and to save lives. Further, the Foundation initiates programs in public information and education, as well as public policy, with a goal of creating a safer riding environment. Established in 1973 when few formal, research-based motorcyclist training programs existed, the not-for-profit MSF created an education training program that has evolved from a single learn-to-ride program into a comprehensive training system with the breadth and depth to address a variety of riders needs and interests and promote lifelong learning. Since its inception, MSF curricula have been used to train approximately 6.5 million motorcyclists and are expected to exceed seven million riders later this year. A factor for this increased training pace can be partially attributed to MSFs relatively recent emphasis on adult learning principles, the practice of placing greater responsibility on the student, and overall learner-centered facilitation as opposed to instructor-centered instruction. So much has been learned about safety and learning methods over the last four decades, said Dr. Ray Ochs, MSF vice president of training systems and lead developer of the groundbreaking MSF Basic RiderCourse. MSF looks at recent research and contemporary literature to ensure the best outcomes for riders. Program success results from being firmly rooted in substantive underpinnings, which include motorcycle-related research and experience, general and trafficrelated safety principles, a focus on adult and accelerated learning principles, and motor skills development principles. MSF is supported by 11 original equipment manufacturer industry members. With 2,625 recognized training facilities in 48 states and 14 countries, MSF trained a little over 400,000 motorcyclists in 2012 alone. Furthermore, these motorcyclists were trained by approximately 9,500 MSF-certified RiderCoaches, who are, in turn, trained by 250 RiderCoach trainers. Over the last several decades, MSF has raised the bar in motorcyclist safety training and education, said MSF President Tim Buche. We started out addressing only minimal skill and knowledge level content and progressed by adding the behavioral components of riding, which includes the social and emotional demands of riding in the complex world of traffic and technology. MSFs formula for rider safety promotes fundamental skills, perceptual skills, collision avoidance skills, and the behavioral aspects of riding that emphasize hazard perception and the brains executive functions. MSF sets the highest standards for its Rider Education and Training System programs. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation promotes safety through rider training and education, operator licensing tests and public information programs. CONGRESS GIVES TAX BREAK TO ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE BUYERS Tax hikes and spending cuts dominated holiday headlines as the federal government teetered on the edge of the Fiscal Cliff, but the legislative package passed on New Years Day to resolve the issue, dubbed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, included several tax credit extensions that didnt generate as much media interest including one for electric motorcycles. Oregon Senator Ron Wyden (D) sponsored the amendment extending the EV tax credit, which covers 10% of the cost of a qualified electric vehicle, up to $2,500. Vehicles must be a two- or three-wheeled plug-in electric designed primarily for use on public streets, roads, and highways and capable of achieving a speed of 45 miles per hour or greater. Electric-powered two wheelers have been without a federal purchase incentive since the end of 2011, when the original tax break expired that was part of the $800 billion stimulus package passed in 2009. A coalition of EV motorcycle companies, through Plug-In America, lobbied Congress to extend the tax credits, which are also retroactive and apply for electric motorcycles or EV chargers purchased in 2012 as well. Wyden argues that extending the tax credit will help generate jobs in the growing electric motorcycle industry. The electric motorcycle industry is poised to create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs over the next five years, led by companies like Oregons Brammo, said Wyden. This amendment helps promote the development of a promising U.S. industry and support the transition to a lowcarbon American economy. E-CYCLES PROJECTED TO OUTSELL PLUG-IN CARS According to two new Pike Research reports, electric scooters and motorcycle sales are going to eclipse that of plug-in vehicles by the end of this decade. In one report from Pike Research which looks at electric motorcycles and scooters, the study predicts that annual sales of e-motorcycles and e-scooters will reach 18.6 million by 2018. Pike Research points primarily to industries such as delivery companies, police and security forces, and even taxi services in some locations as the prime mover for the increase in sales of electric motorcycles and scooters. Another recently released Pike Research report predicted that annual worldwide sales of electric vehicles will reach 3.8 million by 2020. This includes plug-in electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles selling in the Asia Pacific, North America, and Western Europe. Sales of EVs have not lived up to automakers expectations and politicians proclamations, but the market is expanding steadily as fuel prices remain high and consumers increasingly seek alternatives to internal combustion engines, says senior research analyst Dave Hurst. Indeed, sales of plug-in EVs will grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 40% over the remainder of the decade, while the overall auto market will expand by only two percent a year. Taken together, the two Pike Research reports indicate that two-wheel EV sales will outperform electric four-wheelers by a margin of 5-1 by the end of the decade. Currently, China is the biggest market for the sale of these electric vehicles, accounting for 81% of the global electric motorcycle and scooter market.

EPA TO DROP FOUR GALLON MINIMUM GAS PURCHASES Ethanol-laden gasoline is known to cause engine damage, and many manufacturers warn that using the product will invalidate warranties, so when the EPA approved E15 (fuel blend containing 15% ethanol) it raised concerns amongst motorcyclists, off-roaders, snowmobilers, boaters and others who use vehicles and equipment driven by small gas-powered motorsnone of which are approved for its use. The EPAs response was to require a minimum four gallon purchase, the misguided rationale being that it would dilute any residual E15 remaining in a gas pumps lines. Again, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency came under fire, with powersports and automotive groups pushing back against the federal agencys push for the grain alcoholblended biofuel. Apparently realizing that a viable solution to the problem needs to be conceived, the EPA is abandoning its four-gallon minimum on blender pumps that dispense both E10 and E15 from the same pump, and instead the government body says it will likely require gas stations to label shared pumps, as well as offer a dedicated E10 pump/ hose for non-approved vehicles. In the meantime, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has denied a rehearing on the EPA decision to put E15 on the market. The federal appellate court decision is a setback for the oil-andgas industry, which opposes the use of E15 and a federal biofuel blending mandate that requires refiners to blend 36 billion gallons of biofuels into traditional transportation fuels by 2022. NEW YEAR, NEW LAWS The new year puts new laws on the books across the country, with state and local governments ringing in 2013 with a mix of new laws ranging from the innovative to the odd; one in Kansas City says households cant have more than four cats, while a town in Massachusetts is banning businesses from selling plastic bottles. In Florida, drivers can once again flash their headlights to warn others of upcoming speed traps, which was previously outlawed. Meanwhile, driverless cars in California got the green light to hit the public roads, but one of Illinois 150 new laws prohibits motorcycle riders from popping wheelies -- Public Act 97-743 imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding. WOMAN FIRED OVER HUSBAND BEING IN A MOTORCYCLE CLUB Her husbands membership in a motorcycle club has cost the job of a human resources technician with the city of Kingman in northwest Arizona, according to a Phoenix lawyer who is representing the woman in her bid for reinstatement. The city served 11-year employee Melissa Summerson a notice of intent the day after Christmas and terminated her employment Dec. 28, attorney David Kresin told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. She was terminated for the stated reason of her husbands membership in a family motorcycle club - the Desert Roadriders, he said, adding that the dismissal violates her constitutional right to freedom of association. Theres no allegation that Ms. Summerson personally did anything wrong in her job or engaged in any

conduct personally that violated any of the citys rules, and we believe theres no cause for termination as shes been an outstanding employee with a great record for her entire employment. CRIMINALS MORE PRONE TO CRASH THEIR MOTORCYCLES Motorcyclists who have criminal records are twice as likely to get into accidents on the road than their lawabiding peers, a new Swedish study has found. The findings come from an examination of more than 5,000 motorcycle accidents carried out by Karolinska Institute epidemiologist Michael Fored. He went through statistics and looked at motorcycle riders who have a license and then cross-referenced the names with the criminal register. If youve been convicted of a crime before, we see at least double the risk that youll get into a serious accident, Fored told the TT news agency. Among non-offenders, there are 4.1 accidents per 1,000 license-holders annually. However, that figure jumped up to 27.7 when looking at drivers who had at least two criminal convictions. Fored, who shared his findings at the Transportforum conference in Linkping, Sweden. Maybe we should educate people who break the traffic laws, suggests Fored. EUROPE SET TO MANDATE ABS FOR MOTORCYCLES A Europe-wide proposal to mandate anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for motorcycles bigger than 125cc manufactured from 2016 onwards was overwhelmingly approved by the European Parliament by a vote of 643-16. Although the measure is still working its way through the EU legislative process and must still be adopted by individual member nations of the European Union, it is expected to be adopted soon. A European Union Commission presented the ABS requirement for new framework regulation for motorcycles, and calculates that the proposal would reduce the number of fatal motorcycle accidents by more than 5,000 over a 10-year period. Although the first anti-lock braking system was installed on a motorcycle in 1988, only 16% of all newly manufactured motorcycles in Europe were equipped with ABS, and by comparison car manufacturers have made ABS standard equipment since 2004 which has contributed to an estimated 49% overall decline in fatal car accidents in the EU. Experts regard anti-lock braking as a huge boost to safety, pointing to a Swedish highway study that showed that 38% of all motorcycle accidents involve personal injury and 48% of all serious and fatal accidents could have been prevented with ABS. In the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has considered requiring ABS on new motorcycles sold in America, and will likely take up the issue in the near future. INDONESIAN WOMEN BANNED FROM STRADDLING MOTORCYCLES In an effort to establish Sharia law, Indonesias northwestern province Aceh has enacted a controversial new law banning women from sitting on motorcycles with their legs apart. Aiming to save peoples morals & behaviors, under the new regulation women are allowed to sit side-saddle because passengers who sit side-saddle rarely fell off while when you see a woman straddle a motorcycle she looks like a man Despite opposition from human rights activist who are calling for a reversal of the Sharia-type law; Were going ahead with the ban. Theres no resistance here, said Dasni Yuzar, secretary of the city administration. The government is only preserving morals. Women must not straddle motorbikes because it provokes the male drivers, declared Aceh Mayor Suaidi Yahya, who proposed the law. However, he also added that women were allowed to straddle motorbikes if they were driving, as long as they were dressed in a Muslim way. Al Yasa Abubakar, a professor at the State Islamic Institute Ar-Raniry in Banda Aceh, explained that no such prohibition exists in Islam. While Yuzar agreed it was not explicitly written in the Koran that women should not straddle bikes, he said by sitting astride, women dishonor themselves. AUSTRALIAN TOP COP VOWS TO BAN BIKIES FROM PUBS Declaring that outlaw bikies are not the type of people who should be running licensed premises, Chief Commissioner Ken Lay has vowed to ban bikers from pubs and clubs across Victoria. The legislation is designed to ensure that doesnt occur, he told the Herald Sun newspaper of his plan to move bikies out of venue ownership, operation and security. Earlier this year, police swooped on bikies in a series of raids and seized 120 guns after ruling them not fit people to have the weapons under the Firearms Act. Meanwhile, police are telling licensees not to allow patchedup bikies entry, so some Melbourne strip clubs, bars and nightclubs are refusing entry based on a dress code standard, and some have even banned motorcycles from parking outside. Inspector Paul Ross, of licensing enforcement, said police advised licensees its probably better if they dont allow outlaw motorcycle gang members inside ... wearing colors.One operator, who is enforcing the ban, said police asked him and others to sign an agreement that the dress code standard relating to bikies was upheld. Be visible: Remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting in time. Make sure your headlight works and is on day and night. Use reflective strips or decals on your clothing and on your motorcycle. Be aware of the blind spots cars and trucks have. Flash your brake light when you are slowing down and before stopping. If a motorist doesnt see you, dont be afraid to use your horn. Dress for safety: Wear a quality helmet and eye protection. Wear bright clothing and a light-colored helmet. Wear leather or other thick, protective clothing. Choose long sleeves and pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves. Remember the only thing between you and the road is your protective gear. Apply effective mental strategies: Constantly search the road for changing conditions. Use MSFs Search, Evaluate, Execute strategy (SEESM) to increase time and space safety margins. Give yourself space and time to respond to other motorists actions. Give other motorists time and space to respond to you. Use lane positioning to be seen; ride in the part of a lane where you are most visible. Watch for turning vehicles. Signal your next move in advance. Avoid weaving between lanes. Pretend youre invisible, and ride extra defensively. Dont ride when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Know and follow the rules of the road, and stick to the speed limit. Know your bike and how to use it: Get formal training and take refresher courses. ( Philippians 4:8) New King James Version (NKJV) I went out to have breakfast with my son in-law and his father last week and overheard a conversation between a couple that went from bad to worse and it was all negative. I couldnt help but wonder why their relationship was so bad with all the negative things flowing out from both of them. Literally every word out of their mouth was negative and they were wanting to know why nothing good ever came their way? Negative thinking can distract us from remembering Gods goodness and from building an intimate relationship with him. We live in a culture of complaining. We look for ways to get things off our chests. Talk shows are flooded with callers eager to share their displeasure about something. Complaining may seem harmless, sometimes even therapeutic. However, it causes impatience, which reinforces negative attitudes and can lead to a selffocused life. We all go through difficult times, but God doesnt want us to focus on the negative. He knows that chronic complaining will never help us and will ultimately harm us. Instead, God calls us to rejoice! To focus our minds on the good, the positive, the praiseworthy. To give thanks in all circumstances and to focus on his love. Joseph never complained when he was betrayed by his brothers, put into slavery and unjustly imprisoned. The apostle Paul maintained a good attitude when he

was beaten and imprisoned. Both men had an intimate relationship with God and wanted more than anything to please him. One characteristic of being a true man or woman is seen in the character of these examples in the Bible. Real men and women see the opportunities and look for solutions rather than file numerous complaints with no results. The next time you start to complain take a deep breath and refocus on Jesus. The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible. Warrior Chopper Raffle Party

Roger Borror will tell you hes had motorcycles in his blood since day one; add that to a deep passion to help those who have served in the military and you get one amazing custom built chopper. After having a vision in the back of his mind for many years, and trying to find a way to unite these two passions, Roger found the solution. What began as a fundraiser to benefit local military families, including his grandfather who served with the Navy in WWII, soon proved to symbolize so much more. A fundraising event was held in January 2008 that enabled Roger to start the Wounded Warrior Chopper project. Thanks to that event he was able to purchase the frame & wheels and over the years more parts were purchased as funding came in. Unfortunately, the down-turn in the economy proved a harsh struggle for Rogers desire to build this bike. And although the funding for the bike had screeched to a halt, the dream of giving back to the military never died. Fast forward to January 2011, with the economy looking up, donations started to roll in once more. Roger and the rest of the crew at Wapello County Customs (along with family and many good friends) worked, drove, lost sleep, sweated and bled in order to complete the bike in time for its official unveiling on Veterans Day, 11-11-11. After its introduction, Roger and the chopper traveled the country selling raffle tickets from Sturgis to the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati and everywhere in between for over a year. Word of the outstanding customization job spread fast, the bike was featured in many national motorcycle publications and photographed with the likes of Jesse James, Charlie Hunnam Jax from SOA, and many more that are well known in the motorcycle world. On 12-12-12 with 100s of people in attendance, a stage rocking courtesy of 3 different bands, and Tommy Flanagan Chibs from Sons of Anarchy signing autographs, Rogers dream was realized. Ottumwa Mayor Frank Flanders took a moment as the event began

to proclaim December 12th, 2012 Wounded Warrior Day. The winner of the raffle was announced and since he wasnt in attendance, Tommy (with his thick Scottish accent) gave him a courtesy call that went something like this Joey, this is Tommy Flanagan, Chibs from Sons of Anarchy. and Im calling you to tell you that YOU just won an AMAZING motorcycle. You should probably call this number back to claim your prize. IMAGINE checking your voicemail and hearing THAT message. Joey Smith (seriously, that IS his name) from Bunker Hill, IL bought one, singular raffle ticket simply because the proceeds were going to the Wounded Warrior Project, a great cause worthy of the donation. And the man behind this entire vision couldnt agree more saying, Its not about the motorcycle were giving away, the bands or the celebrity actor; its about honoring the men & women serving our country for the freedoms we have today. Well said Roger, I couldnt have said it any better myself!! Thanks to all who donated money, time and all of the other important things we dont ever seem to have enough of, your kindness is much appreciated! By Lelia Watermon TRM Missouri I wanted to share with you a young man I met whom I respect through and through. I met Koby Blount through friends who had their bike painted. After meeting Koby I now know what everyone sees in this man. Hes not only an artist but a father and husband, and seems to have it all together. He also has his own business called KCL Creations. I have seen some of his work and its amazing not only the art and the air brushing he has done, but how he takes his work seriously. In meeting Koby I asked if he would mind if I did a story on him and he was more than willing to share his life with me. While interviewing Koby I asked a lot of questions including what his desires were in life. So here goes with a little on what Koby did to get where he is now. Koby started out being an

Architectural Drafter; in 2003 he worked for Extreme Motorsports. In 2005 he started teaching himself bodywork and painting, after his own bike fell over which caused a lot of damage. Feb. 2006 he took a course at West Port Customs, taught by Mikie Harris. This course truly sparked his interest in airbrushing. He spent the next 9 months perfecting this art. Nov. 2006 he drove to Salt Lake City, UT to attend a class called Aset Iwata, also known for The Ultimate Air Affair. The course was taught by the top 16 of the nations best Airbrush Artists. Jan. 2007 was Kobys 1st custom paint job on a 1998 Harley Soft Tail. The owner of this bike was so pleased. Seeing the pleasure from this customers face only encouraged Koby to be more proficient in the art of air brushing. In the summer of 2007 he worked along with Tim Welke for the next 2-3 years, learning quite a lot. The summer of 2009 Koby worked with Charles Crews who helped Koby learn perfection of airbrushing. Koby truly admires both of these men in his life and wanted to make sure to mention them and thank them for all they did in teaching him what they knew. The year 2009 was also a big deciding factor as Koby got laid off from his job. After talking with his wife, they both agreed to make his hobby and love into a full time job. It was then that he started his business KCL Creations. Times were hard but they both hung in there. In 2011 Koby joined Van Yarnell in a business called Flex-A-dent. He now custom paints a lot of bikes for Chariots of Fire. Koby Blount is a young man who has made his dreams come true. Yet he doesnt forget who has been there for him either. He would like to thank everyone for their support. Hes a people person with a great sense of life and has a great attitude. JUST FOR THE TWO OF YOU STOVETOP ROAST CHICKEN W/ HOT BUTTERED NOODLES 1 Pound of Fresh Mushrooms 2 of Each Chicken Part; Breast, Thigh & Leg 2 Tbls. Cornstarch 1/4 Cup Water 1/4 Cup Olive Oil 3/4 Cup Rose Wine 1/4 Cup Soy Sauce 1 Clove Garlic, Pressed 1/4 tsp. Dried Oregano Cooked & Buttered Egg Noodles Covered & Set Aside Place sliced mushrooms in a 1/4 inch of olive oil for total browning over medium-low heat. Combine cornstarch and water in a small bowl, stirring until smooth. Add next 5 ingredients, pour over chicken. slow roast on top of stove for 1 hour or until chicken is done. Serve with buttered noodles. * My mom used to make this same recipe in a cast iron skillet, but shed jazz it up by adding strips of green, red and yellow peppers and letting it all cook down on top of stove with a cover over 3/4 of the skillet to allow air to flow. Green chilies is a nice addition also. Any way you do it, this dish is fabulour and the key to it is slow and steady. Dont rush the good stuff. FRUIT & KISSES RED SMOOTHIES 1 Carton (8 ozs.) Strawberry Yogurt 1/2 to 3/4 Cup Cranberry Juice 1-1./2 Cups Frozen Unsweetened Strawberries, 1/4 ed 1 Cup Frozen Unsweetened Raspberries 3 tsps. Sugar or Splenda In a blender or food processor, combine yogurt and cranberry jice. Add strawberries, raspberries and sugar; cover adn process until blended. Pour into chilled, fancy dessert glasses. Serve immediately. These are so rich, you can serve as dessert. DIPPED W/ LOVE STRAWBERRIES INTO HAZELNUT WHIPPED CREAM 1 Quart of Strawberries; pop the tops and rinse thuroughly 1 Cup of Whipping Cream 1/4 Cup Sifted Powdered Sugar

1 Tbl. Frangelico, or Other Hazelnut-Flavored Liqueur 1/2 to 1 tsp. Grated Lemon Rind Beat whipping cream at medium speed with an electric mixer until foamy; gradually add powdered sugar; beating at high speed until soft peaksj form. Gently stir in liqueur and lemon rind. Serve with chilled, fresh strawberries and dip away. MY VALENTINE FOR LIFE STRAWBERRY CUSTARD TORTE 1 Packaged Quality Yellow Cake Mix 1/3 Cup of Sugar or Baking Splenda 1 Tbl. Cornstarch 1/8 tsp. Salt 1 Cup Whole Milk 2 Egg Yolks, Lightly Beaten 1 Tbl. Butter or Margarine 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract 1 Carton (8 ozs.) of Frozen, Whipped Topping, Thawed 1 Pkg. (12 ozs.) Frozen Sweetened, Sliced Strawberies, Drained and Thawed Halved Strawberries and Mint Leaves for Top Garnish Pour some ice cold asti spumante into champagne flutes, light a candle and share a big slice of this torte together, in bed, and this recipe will help create a memory of passion. Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using two greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Cool for 10 minutes, remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt; gradually stir in milk until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutets or until thickened. Remove from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into egg yolks; return all to pan, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate until chilled. Place half of the whipped topping in a bowl; add strawberries. Split each cake into two horizontal layers; plce one layer on a serving plate. Spread with half of the strawberry mixture. Top with a second cake layer; sperad with custard. Add third layer; sperad with remaining strawberry mixture. Top with remaining cake and whipped topping. Refrigerate overnight. Garnish and serve.

Road Trippin Iowas National Motorcycle Museum

Last summer while on our way to see our son graduate college, we stumbled upon a little surprise along the way - The National Motorcycle Museum. This gem of a museum is located about 30 miles north of I-80 and just a little east of Cedar Rapids in the town of Anamosa. Sunshine and I took HWY 1 from I-80, a little 2-lane back country farm road with rolling foothills, farm houses, and tractors. Perfect for bikes - the ride alone was worth the trip. Does the name of the town sound familiar? That might be because this is where J&P Cycles is located. J&P Cycles (www.jpcycles.com) are a supporter & sponsor of the National Motorcycle Museum. Narrator & J&P Cycles owner, John Parham is also the president of the museum. Admission was very reasonable. (www.nationalmcmuseum.org) What impressed me right away was that all the motorcycles were right in front of you and close enough to touch - but please dont! The first motorcycle we saw was Evel Knievels stunt bike, after that was a tribute replica of Indian Larrys bike, Steve McQueens 47 Indian bobber, a couple of Arlen Ness bikes, Ed Roths Asphalt Angel trike, Peter Fondas bike from Easy Rider, Jesse James Orange Camel Road House bike, and I say AND, the original Capitan America! Yes, the National Motorcycle Museum bought the wrecked bike from the movie Easy Rider and had it restored. People, it doesnt get any better than that, but wait, theres more!!! That alone was worth the price of admission, but now to cover the rest of the 300 motorcycles. The National Motorcycle Museum was founded in 1989 with 40 bikes and now has over 300 motorcycles, displays of all kinds, toys, posters, motor displays, and a gift shop. In 2010 they moved into a bigger building, where they are now, on the outskirts of town with a parking lot that can handle buses. Now I could name all the bikes and styles that are on display but that would be boring, instead you name a bike or style and I will say Prego, its in there! The way they display the bikes is what needs mentioning. Like the board track with 8 racers on it. OK, Ill mention some names. On the board track was a 1908 Indian, 1914 Harley, 1918 Pope, 1911 Flying Merkel, and others. Now hows that for name dropping. Next to the board track was an old Service Station display. Off to the right was a wall of motorcycle engines dating back to the teens. To the left of the board track on the back wall were toys pertaining to motorcycles of every year and from every country. One of the side walls had a display of NOS Harley parts. They even had a man made mountain with hill climbers. The museum was broke up some what by manufacture, some restored and some barn fresh. While we were there looking at the motorcycles and displays we ran into Bill Weder who was putting up a display of

Then Came Bronson with his Harley XL-Bronson replica. Bill put his bike on loan to the museum, like some of the other bikes on display, and will be there for a year. Bill said that his display will most likely move to Stockton next year. The Then Came Bronson display has been requested for viewing in Northern California. I might add that Bill and his XL won Best of Show in the Thunder Alley Bike Show in OFallon, IL presented by Thunder Roads Magazine. You could easily spend 4 or 5 hours there. If ever you find yourself up Iowa way, take the time to stop on by the National Motorcycle Museum. We give it a solid 2 thumbs up! First turn ON the first switch and leave it for a few minutes. Then turn OFF the first switch and the second switch ON. Now enter the first floor room. If the light bulb is lit, the second switch must be connected to it. If it is not lit, it might be the first or the third switch. Now touch the light bulb. If it is hot it will be connected to the first switch. If it is cold, then it should be the third one. (question on page 10)
