Asahi Beer (Larger) Origin JapanFlavors and aromas Asahi struck our tasters as watery and devoid of flavor.

Theres little hop or malt character, leading one taster to think that this was a low-calorie light beer. The aroma is malty with notes of rice and a very light citrus hop aroma. The flavor begins with a light sweetness and a malty flavor. As the taste advances some more sweetness of a more sweet light caramel and corn flavor comes to the tongue. These sweeter flavors then begin to die down again more toward the end, where some light hop flavors come in to the taste and with the drying out of the sweetness, they combined to leave a crisper taste on the tongue. Asahi Dry beer (i.e. fully fermented, leaving no residual sugar) is not a Japanese invention; in Germany, fully fermented lagers have been produced and marketed as safer for diabetics. But Asahis Super Dry puts a marketable face on the style, and its the brewerys flagship brand to this day.

Hoegaarden (Ale)- Origin Belgium

Flavors and aromas Theres lots of banana (and other fruity esters) in the nose of this beer, plus some clove, which means this has a vaguely Bavarian hefeweizen atmosphere at first. But theres more sweetness here, with floral, herbal notes building on the complex nose, and the palate yielding complex spices like subtle coriander. The mouthfeel is excellent, and the finish comes dry and light, making this a refreshing, invigorating beer. Hoegaarden is brewed using only natural ingredients mineral spring water, unmalted wheat, barley malt, hops, yeast, coriander and Curaao orange peel. Hoegaarden is unfiltered, giving the beer a soft body, cloudy white appearance and thick, frothy head. Hoegaarden Spiced with coriander and bitter orange peel, Hoegaardenproduced in the city of the same nameis generally regarded as the standard measure for the Belgian witbier style (white beer, a category of wheat beer). The brewery makes several beers, but this is the bestknown and most widely available. ABV 5.0% Estrella Damm (Larger)- Origin Spain Pleasant, though mild, hoppy aroma. It presented a low carbonation. Tastes elegantly sweet from malt and wheat, with a citric or acid twist. Nice mild bitterness from its hops and orange peel. Excellent drinkability and very well balanced. ABV 4.8%

Tsing Tao (Larger)- Origin China

Flavors and aromas Tsingtao doesnt stand out among a crowd of American pale lagers A beer bit more body and sweetness than, say, Budweiser. Theres very little else to distinguish this beer, other than a hint of butterscotch in the finish. A lager is smooth tasting, soft and rounded by rice. Being a lager, there is no flavor to bother the taste buds. What you taste is the usual lager blend of malt and hops, plus a hint of rice. Probably because of that rice, theres no bitter aftertaste or bite to scare you away. What you get instead is one of the smoothest and easiest to drink lagers around. Smooth and easy to drink. Theres nothing about the taste to offend even the most timid drinkers. Tsing Tao Chinas largest brewery is owned in part by InBev Anheuser-Busch and Japans Asahi Brewery; its flagship beer is firmly in the mold of American lagers like Budweiser, being lightly hopped and brewed with rice. Dos Equix (Larger)- Origin Mexico

Flavors and aromas A fairly faint nose with low aromas of cooked corn and minimal hops is all there is to be found. The palate is similarly empty; there are crackers and malt in the palate, hints of green apple, and no hops to speak of. Despite fairly substantial carbonation, theres a dull, flat quality to this beer, which lacks bitterness that might brighten it up. Fresh and moderately aromatic. It gave out notes of roasted malts, brown sugar and grassy/herbal hops. On the tongue, this dark lager first hits you with sweet and toasted cereals from the malts. Brown sugar comes through a lot, but the grassy hops give it a medium bitterness which balances out the sweetness nicely. Overall, Balanced in flavor, a good crisp leading to a very dry finish. Overview This Mexican beer has risen in visibility recently, partly on the strength of the WesAnderson-meets-Chuck-Norris-one-liners ad campaign, The Most Interesting Man in the World. But the beer has been in production for over a century, and unlike its even-moreubiquitous compatriot Corona, Mexicans really drink Dos Equis. ABV. 4.3 %

Schneider Weisse (Hefeweisse)- Origin Germany

Flavors and aromas Darker than most of the wheat beers and has definite Bavarian character in the nose, with the Spice components coming across as earthy and muted. Tastes coming through grain, yeasty, very ripe fruit, cloves and spicey bannana.Despite some slightly tart character, the palate is flat, with carbonation not supporting the malt as much as usual, and there are some bitter elements to the finish and a hint of Banana in the taste. Formed in 1872, the G. Schneider & Sohn brewing concern is currently on its sixth Georg Schneider. The Schneiders make wheat beers exclusively, in a wide variety of traditional Bavarian styles. This is one of the more widely available of the authentic Bavarian Hefeweizens. ABV 5.2%

Modello (Larger)- Origin Mexico

Flavors and aromas Our panel found Modelo Especial to be less than totally Especial. A very light nose of almost nothing at all leads into a light palate, faintly sweet, with some corn flavor to the malt. This beer has little to no bitterness. This larger has flavors of bread, cereal, grass and a honey sweetness. Tastes similar to the skunky nose, with Slight lemon hops, finishing with a surprising bitterness. Light bodied. Thin texture. Average-to-above average carbonation. Abrupt, watery finish with some slight bitterness. Overview The pale sibling of dark lager Negra Modelo is the third-best-selling import in the US (behind Heineken and Corona Extra). And its the unsung champion of Mexican beers, especially in Mexico, where its more popular than Corona and on equal footing with Dos Equis. Its the workhorse of the Mexican beer industry. ABV. 4.4%

Kronenbourg 1664 (Larger)- Origin France Taste and Aromas- Sweet malts and grain flavours are well balanced with one another. Slightly bready. Finishes with a nice grassy grain taste. Light to medium bodied, Crisp and refreshing, with medium Carbonation.
Overall - An above average euro pale lager by Kronenbourg. There are some well balanced grassy grain and malt flavours.

ABV. 5.9%

Kiran Ichiban** (Larger)-Origin Japan

Japanese lagers, with their ultra-light profiles, are some of the most sensitive beers around when it comes to showing off flaws, which is probably why we were able to detect a skunky note even though this beer is packaged in sensible brown glass. A very light nose leads into a palate of very light, delicate malt, with just a hint of bitterness, and a dry finish. Despite the lightness, its not watery. **Ichiban Shibori means first pressings, and reflects a process where less effort is put into extracting sugars from the grain. This requires more grain, but Kirin claims it results in a smoother taste.
ABV 5.0%

Cusquena (Larger) Origin Peru

combines the light and crisp beer taste profile similar in flavor of European pilsners. The result is a lager that is crisp, refreshing, and unexpectedly full of flavor. The flavor is subtly complex, malted barley aroma of freshly baked bread balances even the most delicate palate. The beer also has a Herbal and spicy complexity that only can come from utilization of three different hops. A crisp, clean and very refreshing flavor, a desirably dry finish. An overall taste that some beer drinkers would call perfection in a bottle. ABV 4.8%
