Topic: Describe an enjoyable party that you have attended

Find and correct 7 mistakes in this writing

The party that I enjoyed too much is my 18th birthday. It was taken three
months ago. My parents held this party for me at my home and I invited all
my friends to attend. To starting the party, I blew out the candles on the
birthday cake while everyone was singing the song Happy Birthday. After
that, they gave some gifts, cards and best wishes to me. We ate a lot of
delicious food. During the party, we played many funny games and this was
a reason what made me like the party very much. One of the games that I
won called "Finding idioms". I won because I found many strangely and good
idioms such as dance to another tune, raining cats or dogs, paint the town
red, etc. In the end of the party, I opened all gifts and got a lot of photos with
my friends. This party was nothing but fun and games. However, it was
beautiful and memorable.

I am studying English to take the IELTS test and I realized that and
academic vocabularies are very . in speaking strategies. I had a good
idea to use them. In any topic I try to bring idioms and academic
words simultaneously into my speech as a game between friends, or turn a
location into an ideal place to learn idioms, even I can talk about idioms in
anywhere at any time, etc. My friend and I have a book major in idioms and
academic words so we prepare our own speech based on a topic and
.. them with each other. We like to talk about American English
idioms such as smell a rat, play it by ear, eating someone, dressed to the
teeth, get in someones hair, for a song, paint the town red, etc. Sometimes

.. After a period using this way, not only my speaking skill
makes fast progress but . the other skills are improved. I have not
understood reading tests completely before because they have many
academic words. I could not speak or express my thoughts
because I had a very limited vocabulary. So learning and using academic
words as well as idioms help me ..my vocabulary. Now speaking
and writing and reading are for me.

Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find
useful
Find and correct 7 mistakes

Im going to describe a piece of electronic equipment that I find useful. It is

the laptop. I have had it for nearly two year and it was a gift from my parents
on my birthday. Its not difficult at all for me to learn to use it because I just
needed to look after the manual and follow the instructions about how to
turn it on, turn it off, how to install software and many other things. The
more significant thing is that it is portable. And its portability features offer
several distinct advantages: first is its productivity. When using a laptop, I
dont have to waste my time. For example, I can manage my email while a
long-hour commute by bus or do my homework in the university coffee shop
during short break between lectures. Second is its immediacy. When I carry
my laptop, it means I have instant access to various information, personal
and work files. I am a teacher of English and at school, I can use my laptop to
bring texts, sound, and pictures into a classroom. With the laptop and things
shown on the projector overhead, I can attractive students attention. I can
speed down the teaching process and make difficult-to-explain ideas straight
forward. This means that I can spend more time answer students questions.

Describe a restaurant that you enjoyed going to.
About a year ago, I was invited by a friend of mine to go for lunch at a local
restaurant. He actually chose it, not me, but it was very good and it is one of
the best that Ive ever eaten in. Everything was excellent, the service, the

food, and obviously good company as well, so it was a perfect afternoon we

spent together.
The restaurant was maybe about 5km outside of the city where we live. It
was in the country and situated next to a lake with a beautiful view of the
surrounding countryside. Like I said, it was actually my friend who chose the
restaurant. I didnt even know about it, although I had heard several people
mention its name before. It truly was a spectacular location, quite
breathtaking in fact. Maybe thats why so many people are enthusiastic
about the place.
The food they offer is what would be classed as traditional food or home
cooking but its of a very high standard and superb quality. The menu is
varied and includes something for everyone. There are traditional meat
dishes, different types of fish and they cater for vegetarians too with plenty
of variety available for those who dont want to eat meat or fish.
I decided to have one of the local salmon, which is supposedly caught from
the lake in front of the restaurant. My friend had a steak, he likes his red
meat! The food was excellent. It was served quickly and was delicious. Its a
place I will definitely be recommending to other people now that Ive been
and tried it for myself.
The whole experience was very good, from the food, the scenery and of
course having an opportunity to catch up with my friend, so there were many
reasons that I enjoyed eating there, and it was actually better than I thought
it would be which is always a nice surprise!

Describe a meeting you remember going to at work,
college or school
Find and correct 7 mistakes

I remember a meeting I attended about 3 months in particular, because it

was a very long one and a lot of people were getting stressed out during it.
The meeting was at work, in the conference room where we all gathered to
discuss some problems with a very important project we were working on.
There were about eight people who attended the meeting; the general
manager, the head of the design department, the company accountant, the
project manager and two of the company directors, my boss who is the
president of the company, and me as one of the project engineers. Basical
the project we were working on was not going well; it was overdue and over
budget due to some unforeseen problem and delays with suppliers and
contractors.
The worse thing about that particular project was that it was for our most
important client, I think thats why the directors were at the meeting,
because it was causing problems for potential new projects that we were
trying to obtain from the same client, so the consequences of not deliver the
project as promised could have had serious long term effect for the company
as a whole.
The meeting started with an update of what had been completed so far and
the unexpected problems encountered and already solved. The project
manager and design engineer presented some information about some
existing problems and some possible ways of what they could be solved. The
accountant took her turn to explain various aspects of the budget and how
costs had exceeded the project budget so far, and the final part of the
meeting was all about forming an action plan to get the project back on track
and hopeful recover some of the overspending in the final stages of the
project.
As I said, I remember it very well because I dont think anyone really enjoyed
that meeting. Most of the people who participated were very nervously about
the situation and several times they tried to blame other people and other
departments for the delays and cost overruns. Even the directors didnt look
comfortably because so much was at stake for the company. It wasnt the
worst meeting Ive been to but neither was it the best, however, we did
eventually solve a lot of problems so it was certainly productive even though
it lasts for over 5 hours.
