5.1 Ethics should be encouraged to eliminate corruption Retired professor of social work Rita Noronha prefaced the discussion on corruption and Jan Lokpal bill saying that socio-cultural system and socio-structural was the main reason for corruption to exist and thrive from early times. Upholding the highest standards of ethical behavior is one of the most essential responsibilities that we place on the leaders of organization. This means even when the wrong thing might have some attraction, the people will come down to doing the right thing. Work-place ethics tend to relate to decision-making process, usually. There are some good work-ethics like honesty, dependability, positive attitude, efficiency and so forth. Take honesty for example. Any task assigned to you should be performed and done without cheating, stealing or lying, with utmost honesty. A person’s conscience will be bothered if he or she does not follow work ethics. Conscience generates a sense of guilt, a sense of shame. Hence, people will refrain in indulging in bribery act. Dependability can be proven by being reliable and performing consistently. In fact, those who are dependable actually considered reliable as well. Thus, it is necessary to develop the quality of being a responsible person. By doing so, you will form a good example for the people around you and will be a role model to imitate. To accomplish your tasks successfully, maintaining a positive attitude at work is very important. The reason would be your colleagues get affected by your mannerism and respond accordingly. Other than that, upholding a positive attitude at work and life will prevent you from doing the wrong thing as well as bribery. Efficiency is the essential component for your own growth as well as the betterment of the company you are working with. By thinking of making the company better and greater in performance, you automatically refuse to corrupt as bribery actually lower the image and performance of the company. 5.2 Religious role should be taken in order to eliminate corruption Religions play an important role in eradicating corruption. People should be empowered to bring on moral value that governs them in their local contexts, and taking responsibility in that area of formation. Religious teaching leads us to a better future. It teaches us to conduct in an appropriate, correct and acceptable way in a society. Other than that, it teaches us what can do and what do not. Values and prophetic statements should be weighed against corrupt practices in order to bring about changes in behavior. Corruption can be eradicated by teaching and imbibing each other with qualities of compassion and love, and by following rudimentary qualities of respect, such as for fellow human beings and their property. Religion can also play a role in terms of counseling victims of corruption. For instance, teach them to be open-minded and let-it-go personality. Last but not least, all of those social ailments can be traced to a lack of faith in religion. Hence, religious values can be taught to everyone since the day they are born. 5.3 Approaches to Overcome Corruption Corruption is the misusage of power for private gain. It is unfair for those who depend on the integrity of people in a position of authority. Corruption can be found everywhere. When it happens in management, however, people become unreliable. Other than that, it may cause negative impacts towards the company or organization, such as ineffective working performance, bad reputation and so forth. Thus, it is necessary to take appropriate methods to overcome this problem. Corruption in a company may occur due to lack of transparency. Accountability corruption will flourish if there is lack of transparency in the company. This is because it creates chances for public officials to abuse their office for personal gain. So, it is recommended to reinforce internal systems to ensure transparency, accountability and monitoring
