2. FADE IN: INT. GARAGE AFTERNOON In an unfamiliar garage, a mysterious man is sharpening his knives on a tool table. He lines all the tools in place, and selects the clamp. He then places a clamp to the right end of the table. The man turns away and walks out of the garage door. CUT TO
EXT. WALKING DOWN HIS ROAD - EVENING WILLIAM SHAWDER(WILL) aged 25, is walking down his road from the right and approaching his door way. As he draws closer, he sees a box placed on the step outside his door, with his name attached on a white paper. He walks to the step, and picks up the box feeling puzzled, just before he enters his house.
INT. HALLWAY- EVENING WILL closes the door behind him and walks down his hallway and into the living room carrying the box. He drops his briefcase by the right side of the sofa, and places the box on the coffee table. He sits on the sofa, examines the box and opens it. WILL finds a DVD inside, and is very puzzled. He picks up the DVD, puts it into the player and turns on the TV. Footage of his wife, KAREN SHAWDER, appears. She is tied to a chair with a bag over her head, head and breathing heavily. WILL begins to panic and moves closer to the screen. WILL (To himself) Karen??...Oh no no no no! WILL puts his hands on his head and sighs. He begins to panic and searches for his phone in his blazer pockets. On the TV screen, the bag is removed from KARENS head by a mysterious man with black gloves, and she begins to look around the room panting. Suddenly, she looks into
3. the camera and opens her mouth to speak. WILL stops searching for his phone to listen, and he moves in closer. KAREN (trembling) WILL...listen carefully, you dont have long. I dont know whats going on, but Im so scared baby...please get me out of here...I love you. KAREN briefly looks down to compose herself. She takes a deep sigh. KAREN I have been instructed to deliver a message to you via cue cards..I am not hurt, however, if you do not cooperate, there will be serious consequences. If you attempt to call for help, or repeat what you are witnessing.. I will be killed. If you ignore or refuse him what he is asking for, I will be killed. He will know, because he is watching you, and he has been for the past 2 months. KAREN takes a minute to compose herself , and is frightened by what she has discovered. She is prompted to keep reading by the kidnapper. WILL (to the screen) Im so sorry...this is my fault KAREN continues to read the cue cards. KAREN The time is now 2:56pm, and you will have watched this long after it had been recorded and sent to you. You claim that you are an average working man, and earn up to 25,000... but your safe holds over 4X the amount... KAREN is confused and looks above the camera to the kidnapper.
4. KAREN (speaking freely) 4X the amount? What? Thats not true...? WILL looks down in distress and guilt. KAREN continues to read... KAREN You must empty the safe and the cash must be handled in sacks, and dropped off precisely at 10pm. You will deliver the cash in 2 days. WILL gets out a notepad and pen, and begins writing. KAREN The address you will deliver it to is Number 40, Revert Road, postcode SS3 24T. There will be a phone call tonight at 6pm, which you must answer promptly...as he will only ring once. I do not know where I am, but if you ever want to see me again, you will do as he says, when he instructs you to. And he will prove that he means business... ( to kidnapper) What do you mean you will prove you mean business? The camera drops and KAREN is no longer in shot. Her heels and another pair of dark shoes can only be seen. The dark shoes approach her near a table. There are suddenly screams and cries for help.
KAREN (screaming) NO NO PLEASE! YOU SAID YOU WOULDNT HURT ME! WILL! WILL! WILL AH! F*CK!
5. WILL is distressed and swings his arm to knock the box on the floor. Something pale falls out the box, and as he examines closer, he discovers his wifes finger.
