Hundreds of Scotty fans made the trip to Baker this past Saturday to cheer their beloved Scotties on in a Class B semifinal football game. In a hard-fought battle and the Scotties up 7-0 in the first
quarter, the Spartans would put the icing on the cake with a touchdown in the final 43 seconds of the game to prevail 22-7 and advance to the state title tilt with Missoula Loyola.

The Glasgow High School Speech & Drama Team competed Saturday at the Circle Invitational Meet. Sixteen schools competed at this meet; eight of them were Class B schools, three Class A and five Class C. The Glasgow team again came home with the Class B Drama trophy, earning 50 points while their closest rival, Plentywood earned 25 and Huntley Project had 24 points. The Speech team came home with 52 points and a third place trophy behind Shepherd with 66 and Huntley Project with 60. The experience that the Scotty seniors bring to the team is translating into first place medals. This week Kylie Cook won her second Serious Solo title, performing The Button while fellow senior Amanda Kresal took second with My Mothers Touch. Three seniors who just finished their Cross Country season competed in their first meet on Saturday. Bridger Sanders mimed his way to a first place medal. Jared Chalmers earned a perfect score, taking firsts in all three preliminary rounds and firsts from all three judges in the finals, earning him the first place medal in Impromptu Speaking. And Amanda McDonald earned second in SOI. Individual placements in Drama were: Pantomime: Machaela Cathey third Humorous Solo: Hailey Stone - fourth Serious Duo: Kat Geer and Kyla Harrington fifth Humorous Duo: Rachel Overby and James Fauth seventh Individual placement in Speech were: Spontaneous Oral Interpretation: Rachel Sigmundstad 2nd; Maria Morris 3rd Serious Oral Interpretation: Ethan Jamba 4th Humorous Oral Interpretation: Ember Barnett 6th A newly sanctioned Class B event was introduced at the Circle meet Spontaneous Oral Interpretation of Literature (SPOI). It is a combination of Impromptu where the student is given a new piece and has only five minutes to prepare; and the other Oral Interpretation events where the student has to read and can not move her feet. Coach Sharon LaBonty said, It is a very challenging new event and we were real proud of our two freshmen girls (Rachel and Maria) for doing so well. Also competing in speech was Andy Brandt in HOI where he placed 9th, one out of the finals in a field of 24 competitors. The Scotties will be traveling to Roundup this coming Saturday.

JUST IN
For a second straight season, Mason Melby and the Baker Spartans knocked the Glasgow Scotties out of the Class B Football Playoffs. Simply put, there was no shutting down Melby. Not only did he score all three of Bakers touchdowns on 31 carries for 189 yards rushing, the Spartan senior also tacked on the field goal and extra point following one of his TD runs, accounting for all of Bakers 22 points. Defensively, Melby was part of the wrecking crew that held the Scotsmen to minus nine yards rushing. The Spartans held a slim 9-7 lead at halftime and took a 15-7 lead with around five minutes left in the ball game. More playoff photos will appear in an upcoming Buzz as a salute to our Scotties who fought stoutheartedly the entire season, their only two losses being to the Beast of the East that we believe will win the state title next week.
